A fabulous collection. We easily spent 2 hours here. The volunteers were super friendly and full of information. This museum while small is chockers full of memorabilia. Excellent work.

St Arnaud Rail Station - Raillery Hub

This heritage listed 1878 Train Station received a $1M refurbishment in 2019, reopening as a public gallery, retaining its architectural heritage and railway artifacts, with regular revolving exhibitions. Unique locally produced arts, crafts and produce are also for sale in the Marketspace. Arts workshops and lectures are provided in the community rooms, including an artist’s library and lounge.

This was our second visit and it is still great, The history of the treatment of people in the past is a real eye opener. The place is run by volunteers and the tour is a credit to them.

Gum San Chinese Heritage Centre stands as a monument to the contribution by the Chinese to the establishment and economic and cultural advancement of Ararat. It tells a story of deprivation, hardship and the incredible tenacity of thousands of men from the south east of China that made their way to Victoria, in the 1850s in search of gold. This special building featuring the second most number of characters on the roof corners of any building in Australia. A roof donated to Ararat by Sister City Taishan is an excellent museum and function centre. Managed by the Ararat Rural City, this building the vision of Don and Rene Reynolds is a tribute to their and Ararat’s Chinese heritage. Gold panning is the most popular activity available to children among a number of available activities. Research, history of education and the involvement of Taishan No 1 High School in Ararat add extra value to this facility a must stop on the highway western side of the city centre.

With 25 years of experience using traditional techniques and tools, james skilfully creates high quality functional and sculptural glass.

I've seen glass blowing before; but this was different. it was up close. You could watch an entire piece being formed like magic in front of your eyes. James is very laid back; lets you take photos; low pressure. And his items are gorgeous. I just had to buy a beautiful vase to bring home with me.

Volcanoes Discovery Centre

A comprehensive and fascinating display of information about volcanoes in the region, around Australia and all over the world. We cater to school groups, from primary to seniors; and all other travelling groups, by appointment. Drop in from Wednesday to Friday 11am - 3pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am - 4pm or book and visit on other days. We are also open during the school holidays, from 11am - 3pm. Tours of Mt Rouse and interesting talks about volcanoes can be provided. The centre also has information about the other tourist attractions in our region.

With a friendly volunteer to introduce you to this collection of information about volcanoes, this is well worth a visit. They have interactive displays, videos, endless number of rocks, and lots of information about the area.
