Desert Holocaust Memorial

I don't mean this in a snarky way but when I heard a memorial was in the park I hadn't expected much - perhaps a plaque or two. But this space is really impressive. Very sobering and contemplative to be there. While it's not a huge space, there are several areas and artistic depictions of the Holocaust. The piece at the center is so very well done - a star of David with representations of victims, a map and a count of the number of those killed in each country. As one of the plaques says, "Never Again."

Isabelle

Reviewed By dnaleciz - Moreno Valley, United States

Due to the latest round of California Corona Virus regulation, Southern California is under a “stay at home” lockdown. Most activities have been shut down, or severely curtailed. Outdoor activities are currently authorized. Mask and social distancing are mandatory throughout Southern California. My mission is to observe and enjoy as many of the outdoor attractions as possible. Palm Springs is a large modern city with a multitude of things to see and do. Spread out along Palm Canyon Drive and the surrounding streets, one will find 6 amazing sculptures honoring Lucy Ball, Sonny Bono, and the Chairman of the Links. A Giant Spider, Babies and Isabelle round out the collection. Located in the walkway between Starbucks and the Kimpton Hotel is a larger-than-life sculpture of a young woman, named Isabelle. Both the “Little Mermaid” in Copenhagen, Denmark and “Isabelle in Palm Springs, California have remarkably similar poses. Both statues depict young women sitting on a rock and staring off into the distance. This is the most amazing sculpture in Palm Springs and possible the entire world. This outstanding statue by artist Julian Voss-Andreas is made of thin polished stainless-steel sheets which glimmer in the sunlight. As a result, when viewing Isabelle from different angles, she appears to be a solid statue. However, if you view her head on, she disappears into thin air. Truly astonishing. Strongly recommend all Palm Springs visitors venture over to Tahquitz Canyon Way to view this remarkable sight. Viewing this sculpture is an extraordinary experience that should not be missed.

Baby On The Move

Reviewed By dnaleciz - Moreno Valley, United States

The most unusual sculptures in Palm Springs can be found in a sand box located near the Kimpton Hotel. Ten giant black fiberglass naked babies are crawling around in a sandbox with their posterior stick out in the breeze. Each baby is 11 feet long, 9 feet high and weighs 200 to 300 pounds. The most remarkable thing is that each of the babies are missing their facial features. No smile, nose, or mouth. Instead of a face, each has a barcode stamped into the face. The barcode is supposed to represent the dehumanization of mankind. Instead of being a human being, we are just a number (i.e., Social Security number, Driver’s license number, Passport number, etc.). No name or individuality. Every few months the babies are rearranged in the sand box, giving the impression the babies have crawled around in the sand. This masterpiece by artist David Cerny was originally on display in Prague, Czech Republic. It was dismantled and ship to Palm Springs and open to the public on 05 June 2018. The exhibition was to be on display until mid-2020. Due to the Corona Virus pandemic the “Babies” remain in Palm Springs for the time being. The babies can be viewed from the walkway surround the sandbox. For safety reasons, the public is not allowed in the sand box. An amazing display of giant babies. Glad that I do not have the responsibility of feeding these babies or changing their diapers. This remarkable display is a must see. It is impressive.

Chairman Of The Links Statue

The chairman knows of that. A statue with gold attracts people to go golfing. The sun shines mostly and this is good for golfing. Enjoy your golfing, you will have fun with that. A must see!
