This is our second time using this excellent service .Fast ,efficient and very helpful staff .Ticket 5.90 for a single - A return ticket last for 2 weeks ,this saves you a euro per ticket .Much cheaper than a taxi we were quoted 40 euros for the same journey .

Fast and good value for money, this train gets you into the heart of Rome in around 40 mins, buy ticket in the self service machines or the ticket office (dont forget to validate your ticket once bought in the small green machines). No traffic worries!! the direct train is fast.

We found the metro very cheap and easy to use. I thought it was one of the most user-friendly systems I’ve seen, mainly because you could share a T10 card. We didn't use the metro a lot as we were staying in the Gothic Quarter and most sights were within walking distance. However, it was very handy for getting to Parc Guell which is a bit out of the city and also to Sagrada Familia. TICKET TIPS: i) Buying the T10 ticket is much cheaper than individual tickets and is valid for 10 rides. Each ride works out at just over €1 which is pretty much half the cost of an individual ticket. It is cheaper than the buses. We bought the T10 on our first day and even though we didn't use it all up, it was worth it. ii) Cost aside, the T10 is very convenient because you don’t have to keep buying tickets each time you travel. iii) The best thing about the T10 ticket is that you can share it with a friend. So for the two of us, we only bought one card and we could both use it even though we were travelling together. A lot of public transport cards don't allow you to share a card so this was a real bonus. iv) When you swipe your ticket at the turnstile, that starts one ‘ride’. You then have 1hr 25 min of travel. Even if you transfer trains as long as its inside this time period, it only counts as the one ride. You still have to validate the ticket but it will be counted as part of the same ride. iv) The ticket machine was simple to use once we figured out that we could change the language to English v) We also used the metro on our last day to travel from the Gothic Quarter to Barcelona Sants station for the train to Madrid. It was reasonably straightforward. Mostly there were lifts for our bags but there were a couple of occasions where we had carry the bags up a short flight of stairs.

I am not sure of all the issues regarding booking of train tickets on Spanish Railways but my experience is totally pleasant. Logging in on the Renfe site, I touch the logo showing a globe and it allows me to convert the site to English. It then ask for my personal details including that of my travelling companion and details of where I would like to go and date of travel. Upon completion, it showed me the train schedule for the chosen date with prices indicated. Once you make your choice, it will bring you to a payment site where you log in your payment details. My 2nd booking using the same credit card had a problem but when I used another credit card from a different bank, it was processed smoothly. Within minutes I received an email from Renfe confirming my bookings and asking me to print my tickets or keep them electronically. When I take the trains, it was a breeze. Just show your tickets at the gate and board the train. The inspector seems to have a manifest of all the assigned seats and will. Not bother you if it is direct journey, otherwise you would merely be asked to show electronically or your printed tickets. Very efficient system and I do enjoy the ride.

Having previously lived in Athens and being invited back for a wedding, I was staying in the one of the central suburbs. I already had knowledge of the system so was able to immediately purchase a €10 ticket that would take me and my baggage into the centre. This is weighed against around €40 for a taxi! The trains are clean, they run on the times they quote, they are safe to use and easy to read the signs that are in both Greek and English. I changed trains at Syntagma onto the red line to reach my suburb and my accommodation was about 300m away. For the remainder of my visit I purchased a multi trip card for €13.50 which is in fact 13 trips of up to 90 minutes plus 1 free. When using the cards make sure you validate your trip both in and out of the system. This works also on the trams etc where you can board and validate, then make sure you validate when you exit. It is very similar to the oyster system in London. If you use all your trips you may recharge your existing card or purchase another. The Metro, which was completed just prior to the Olympic games in Athens 2004, but has since been extended, is a very useful method of transport throughout Athens and has many connections with trams, buses, the ΕΣΑΠ (Kifissia/Piraeus line), and the Prostiakos suburban line. You are relieved of the surface traffic jams, heat, pollution etc. and it is fast and efficient. The stations have remained graffiti free!! Even the trains are actually clean on the outside too. The network actually covers from the airport to the city centre and other lines cross the city from east to west, even extending up to the site of the old airport at Ελλινικο. If you get the chance take some extra time at a few of the central stations to see remnants of what was unearthed during the excavations, these can be seen at Syntagma, Monastiraki and Evangelismos stations for sure.

We wanted to go to Montserrat Monastery,we walked to Catalona main station ,which is under ground,accessed by any steps on main island at station. We walked following orange r5 signs,comeing to platforms,we bought tickets at kiosk,ask at any first. There are numerous offers,train -plus cable car to monestary,NOTE you get off at first Montserrat stop,look for cable car on left,BUT if you buy train plus venicular,which is train up hill,it isCremallera,second stop,lots of people get off first stop by mistake and have to wait next train to go one more stop,an hour later. If you do this get one way ticket up on cable car and return on venicular its so scenic,allow 30 minutes between conections. Wear warm clothes as its cold up there. The trains are punctual,clean with the route on front,inside seating is good,elevated . there is a route map illuminated,showing each stop by name,it took about 1 hour to depart first train before asccending the mountain on cable car,pr 2nd stop,venicular train.
