Really good week (and a much improved venue)

Reviewed By lesjackos

We last stayed here 7 years ago and much has changed, mostly for the better. The point of coming here is of course the wildlife. This was just as good as ever and our drivers made a real effort to find the animals that we wanted to see and, apart from the elusive cheetahs & leopards, they succeeded. There is one point that may not be to every safari goers taste - a number of the key beasts had tags; presumably to aid discovery as well as herd management. This has pros and cons: - on the positive, it assists good viewings of the target animals thus less disappointment; - on the negative, it removes an element of the "in the wild" experience that other safaris might provide. My view was I enjoyed the sightings. Where the venue has really improved is the main communal facilities - ie the dining. Whilst some evenings were a set buffet style menu, the food was varied and good. Wine was decent and reasonably priced. The a la carte evenings had very good food considering where we are sitting. The lodges are well laid out with a fair degree of privacy. A great week.

Incredible views

Reviewed By lmalel945605

The views are amazing. Rooms are spacious and kept clean, the Staff goes out of their way to make your stay worthwhile, the drinks are reasonably priced and the food is okay. Note there is a gravel road (a few kilometers) to get to the lodge, it is manageable with a small car though. Better signage is needed as it is easy to get lost and there is poor cellphone coverage in the area. The only thing we didnt enjoy was the game drive (it was done on the farm/premises and not at Mabalingwe as advertised, so there was no big 5 and it was done at midday when its extremely hot and all of the animals are under shades). Overall the stay was very good.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by one of the ladies which was nice. The place is beautiful and the environment is peaceful. There is no noise and distractions from other visitors which we really loved. The chalets are spacious and super clean. We loved the fact that the chalets have full cutlery including enough plates and pots, and we didn't have to buy anything except food during our stay. The children loved the animals and it was so cool seeing them up close. Will definitely visit again. Thank you for hosting us!!

Nungubane Game Lodge

A unique experience

Reviewed By BangkokWill

I stayed at Nungubane for 4 days in May, What a wonderful place. Very intimate with only a few rooms, which allowed for great interactions with both the staff and other guests. Cosy little bar, great food and fantastic guides for the game drives. The rooms were beautiful, spotlessly clean and well appointed and the whole lodge was well managed and friendly. The game and birdlife in the reserve is of a high standard, I was lucky enough to see a great variety, including the elusive Aardwolf! A special thanks to Peter, Keegan and Bertud for making it such a memorable experience. I shall return!

Thoroughly enjoyable 3-night family stay

Reviewed By westonc

My wife and I and our two daughters and “future” son in law decided to celebrate New Year’s Eve at Ditholo Game Lodge. We booked a deluxe suite and a family suite which were spacious, comfortable and clean with en-suite bathrooms with showers. We made good use of the ceiling fans and air-conditioning in the rooms which were very effective. The property is extremely neat and well maintained which is further enhanced by Nyala freely roaming around. The property also has a dam situated nearby to the rooms, and we spent quite some time just relaxing by the dam observing the two resident hippos. During our stay we went on two enjoyable guided game drives and spotted zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and various antelope including certain exotic species. We also thoroughly enjoyed a few of the bush walking trials which are clearly marked. We also made good use of the swimming pool and had good fun playing table tennis, foosball and pool. The staff were friendly and efficient, and we were well cared for throughout our stay. The food was very good, particularly the traditional African Boma Dinner that we had on New Year’s Eve, and the complimentary bottle of sparkling wine that we received was greatly appreciated. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at Ditholo and definitely hope to visit again.
