The 10 best Lodges in Puno, Peru

May 10, 2023 Joeann Galban

Llamas, sheep and alpacas roam the plains of Puno, a port city in southeastern Peru. Their fleeces are used to make the area’s signature textiles, which make excellent souvenirs. You’ll do a lot of walking here, as many of the streets are too steep for cars. But the climbs are worth it for the excellent views of Lake Titicaca. Take a boat to the Floating Islands or get up close and personal with the four-legged locals at a llama farm.

Titicaca Lodge Peru

My lodging is located on the floating island of the Uros. The private room overlooking the lake and the city of Puno. On my island there is a minimarket restaurant and a souvenir shop. We offer a tour of the Islands including local activities. During the day we receive visitors.

Best stay ever

Julio was amazing from start to finish - I am a solo female traveler and Julio just made it feel like home and was so nice and welcoming. He speaks great English, and offers a tour on a reed boat in the evening that offers so much cool, interesting info about how these islands float and how the reeds are used. Now, this place is literally on its own floating island on the lake and this family works 24/7 to maintain the property and lodge, cook food, provide heat, clean, etc.Anything I needed, I messaged him on WhatsApp and he was super responsive. The place itself sits in beautiful Lake Titicaca, and you get the most gorgeous 180’view from your room, as well as your own terrace with a day bed. Everything was super clean and the furnishings were so cute and it is literally Instagram gold. It was really the perfect getaway and so thankful for Julio and his family for this amazing experience

A very special place to stay

I highly recommend staying here, and soon. The Uros floating islands community is in a time of change, and you can still really see the traditional lifestyle here, while also enjoying the comforts of this beautiful lodge. I think things are changing quickly in the area, and the opportunity to see life as it is now won't last long. Staying here is a like glamping, with the gorgeous comfortable beds and perfect views of sunsets and rainbows, not to mention hammocks and outdoor beds to enjoy, and full meals served to you three times a day. But also it's on an island made of reeds in a traditional community, so don't expect unlimited electricity and internet, unlimited hot water, alcohol, or your food whims to be fulfilled. Come here to be here, not to replicate the habits of the city you live in. The lodge is run by a family that is beautifully committed to sharing their community to travelers, and love to do so. They speak English and Spanish as well as Quechua and Aymara, and will take you out on the water and answer all your questions about life lived in Uros, the experience is priceless, truly. We spent three nights and that was just right - enough time to settle in to the island and see both the local islands and more distant Isla Taquile. Another night or two would have given us time to paddle around on our own in a canoe, or take another excursion to a more distant island. Give yourself enough time to really be here. The price is all inclusive, and is a tremendous value.

Interesting experinence with a host family in the floating islands

Reviewed By Jordan K

Just stayed one night to see the Uros islands and lake Titicaca. It was a unique experience, the family very friendly and offered pick up service from the bus station. The dinned was fresh fish and the view was insane. In the night it got quite cold but the owner provided a hot water container to put under bed. Noone else was staying at that night, so it was quite nice of the owner to offer me the spacy double bedroom. Be prepared to spend your time in a quite and peaceful place, no access to shops, markets or restaurants and no internet. Still great experience if you want to disconnect. A bit overpriced but this is a general phenomenon at these islands.

Great local experience

Reviewed By T1234NL

We stayed for one night at Cesar and Lucy’s lodge. It was a great experience. Cesar and Lucy are originally from Isla del Uros, in contrast to other lodges which are run by not locals. From the beginning to the end of our trip Cesar had everything perfectly arranged. A taxi arrived on time to pick us up at the hotel. Cesar arrived by boat to bring us to his lodge. We were truly surprised by our room with private bathroom and terrace. Cesar took us on a boat tour to show us his Uros community and explained about local culture and customs. Back at the lodge Lucy prepared us a three course lunch, which was delicious! After there was time to swim and relax on our terrace. In the afternoon we made another boat trip and enjoyed the sunset. The three course diner was again very good. As it gets very cold at night Cesar installed a gas heater and provided hot water bottles to stay warm. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was excellent, the best we have had so far in Peru. A taxi was arranged to bring us back to the hotel. All was included in the price. We had a great stay and highly recommend this lodge because of the local experience. No need to visit the Uros Islands with an organized tour.

I advise against this place! Completely lack of professionalism. Despite the confirmation of the reservation, two days before arrival, the hotel suddenly canceled the reservation, causing problems with finding another accommodation.

Exotic Floating Hotel in Uros Island with spectacular views

Reviewed By paulrupesh

We stayed here during our visit to Lake Titicaca. This is a floating island inside Uros Island. Location: Out of the world; inside Lake Titicaca in Uros. Boats to Taquile island leave at 9:30 am and the hosts dropped us at the Uros community island. Property: Brand New; All Solar powered and eco friendly. There are about 4 suites in this island with a private boat to take you around. Rooms: All suites with views from every room. Full Glass Panes from bedrooms, lounge and bathrooms. The beds are electrically heated in the evening. Restaurant: One restaurant and it includes breakfast and dinner cooked by the owners ( Valerie and Jose). It was exotic Aymara ( Peruvian) cooking. Service: Out of the world. They were exceptional. They picked us up from Puno; the boat transfers were included. One of the most exotic hotels we ever stayed. loved it and would go there in a heart beat. The owners were the best!!

There is little to no outside signage at this hostel and it would be beneficial for them to get a sign, but they answered the door quickly and showed us our room which was spacious. During the night there seemed to be a fair bit of noise but I used my earplugs. We were leaving for a 6am bus so didn’t have breakfast.
