Delicious Dinner in Chavin – Cash Only
Reviewed By Odd_MeterWe had dinner and breakfast at Hostal Restaurante Chavin Turistico. It wasn’t busy the night we went there and the service was good. Our waiter spoke only limited English and we speak only limited Spanish, but he was helpful and friendly. We split the huge Sopa de Pollo (very tasty and filling), then my Trucha al Ajo was really excellent … the trout was huge, perfectly cooked and fell right off the bones. I assume it was caught locally? Two rivers meet in Chavin so maybe it was from there. My wife liked her Lomo Saltado and sweet cookies for desert. The location is convenient … around the corner from the hostal, and short walking distance from the Chavin ruins. We also stayed at the hostal, which I am not reviewing here, although I can say that the three-floor hostal has a tiny gated courtyard with room for one car where we parked. No one is on staff there … you ring the doorbell and someone comes around the corner from the restaurant to let you in. We were the only people in the building that night. It was pretty good, but not outstanding like the trout dinner! In the morning, we walked over to get the Deseyuno Americano with fried egg, Peruvian flat bread & marmalade, juice and cafe con leche (they had to run to the store for milk and by the time they got back the coffee was not hot). However, we liked the restaurant, food and staff a lot. There is no wifi there and they accept cash only.

Reviewed By mhfredo123We have been spending several days in this beautiful lodge last August. The lodge is quite isolated and has an amazing view on the surrounding mountains. Bruno and Delizia that are running the lodge, were at our entire availability, preparing fantastic breakfast, dinners. Our daughter and our son went sick arriving there and they took care of them providing them the necessary stuff for recovery. From my side, I had the opportunity to hike with Bruno in the surrounding and he knew perfectly the mountains, trek, provided great advices. He is organizing also trekking on the Huaarascan and for sure I will come back for living this experience with him. A place definitevely to recommand, a paradise in the world that needs to be known since the area of the Cordillera blanca is one of the most amazing place I have seen in my life.

Erick's awesome Apu Ecolodge
Reviewed By GoogleUser31Hi all, we want to make sure, if you plan to cross Caraz on your way in Peru, that you need to stop urgently for a visit in Erick's Apu Ecolodge. It's not only a perfect location, a wonderful yard (with tousands of tasty berries and fruits and vegetables you can't even imagine) or a good place to meet and greet new people, its just family. Erick is an openhearted, interested and welcoming mind with a lot of generous ideas and always offer his help. Specially in our case, when we got stuck in Caraz, during the first Covid-19 lockdown he talked to the embassy for us and helped to organise our transfer to Lima where we had to catch one of the returning flights. On top of this we could leave our beloved camper on his site and he's always making sure that it's save at his site. There's nothing you can't ask for in Apu Ecolodge. Please don't miss the chance of get to know the amazing Apu. Watching the pictures or videos of our time there makes us still feel at home.

Amazing, cozy stay!
Reviewed By Lauren MCasita de mi Abeula has a glorious view of one of (maybe the) tallest mountain in the Andes. Every aspect of your stay has been thoroughly curated by the sweet couple from Cusco who own the property. Peruvian decor and color abounds within each of the property's rooms and buildings, with a beautifully landscaped and colorful garden surrounding the buildings. We felt most welcomed in our mountain hideout that kept us well rested and cozy in between intense Andean hikes. The owners cooked delicious breakfasts and dinners for us each day and allowed us to hang out communally in the central building with a television and seating while they prepared our meals. Overall a magical, hidden place we all three highly recommend!

The very friendly staff, They give you key to the main door and the room so you don't have to ring the bell, the kitchen is super comfortable, the location is perfect because it is a few blocks from the city's main square. Highly recommended.

Reviewed By RitcheypacGreat location and relaxed atmosphere. Staying at Amelitas was like visiting a favorite relative. We could come and go and she accommodated our travel needs. I would certainly stay with her again when we return to Huaraz to climb. Thank you for your hospitality and friendship.

Reviewed By Supergran44My son was in contact with owners when we were nearing Caraz. The son of the owners was waiting at the bus station for us when we arrived and drove us to the property. It was extremely clean and the room had private shower. Elsa helped in offering advice on how to get to paces and the best mode of transport. She also told us what to pay for different forms of transport and where to find them. I would certainly recommend it to anyone on a budget who wanted somewhere clean and friendly to stay.
