A solid choice away from the city centre
Reviewed By DRNJ1960Our group recently stayed here when we were thrown out of the Oguzkent Hotel due to a CIS conference. Like most 5 star hotels in Ashgabat the decor is quite over the top. We had luxury rooms that were quite nice. Breakfast does not reflect a 5 star property at all as the selection was somewhat poor. Reception staff are quire attentive and there is someone who always speaks English. Location is on the outskirts of town but since you really need a car to get around this city it should not be that much of a problem. If you can get a good rate this is a fine choice for accommodation.

Still the hotel deserves the five star rating. Friendly staff but assume you are under constant surveillance. Breakfast has an excellent selection

Great after being in the desert
Reviewed By rodgsWe came here after spending the previous night in a yurt at darvaza crater. Our initial entrance to the hotel was via the laundry rooms/trade entrance as all the roads were closed off for rehersals for upcoming celebrations. That having been said, the room was large, clean and comfortable as you would expect from a sofitel hotel The staff were very pleasant and we had a snack in the lounge before we went to our rooms. Good value and very tasty Would stay again if i ever returned to Ashgabat

Reviewed By B CI spent one month in this hotel during a business trip. Room was really nice and clean (just missing a table and chair in my opinion). Good gym, indoor and outdoor swimming pool (these last 2 not tried), spa with good massage service. Around the outodoor swimming pool there are some bars but they were closed at the time. It is possible to rent bikes to explore the area around. Good laundry service. Nice food in the restaurant, plenty of choices, mainly western but also some traditional meals. Good drinks at the bar. The staff is super nice and professional. Some of them can speak good english, the others can speak limited english but I never had problem of comunications and they always tried to do their best. it is very close to the beach and it is possible to have very nice walks around. Just in front of the hotel on the main street there is a bus stop, with bus 6 you can go straight to the bazar and the city of Turkmenbashi (around half hour trip). I didn't pay directly so don't know the price of the room. Restaurant and laundry looked more expensive than average prices. I had a really good stay!

The best hotel I've seen in the Middle Asia

Its owners is a nice and friendly Uzbek family. The rooms are spacious and clean. Hot water, wifi, breakfast are available. I highly recommend this hotel.

Reviewed By Ray SStayed at the hotel as I was part of a tour group visiting Turkmenistan. The room was ok although the air conditioning was temperamental. The view from the room was of the Ashgabat tower and the tear shaped hotel and across that part of the city, at the back of the hotel in the lobby area it is of the circus and the airport building. The group was spread over several floors and rooms are all mentioned that there was no hot water in the morning for a shower. There also did not seem to be a great choice for breakfast and the plentiful boiled eggs were cold. The hotel amenities like wifi were good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. If there was an option to rate the hotel between average and very good I would have selected that.

Breakfast though was a complete shambles; it seems that a sports team was also staying and each member was very hungry; bottom line, the kitchen couldn't cope. Was able to get a piece of bread, a biscuit and a cup of tea...

Bizarre hotel, usual poor service for Turkmenistan
Reviewed By 618bobaI stayed here as part of an organised trip to the country so i didn;t choose it. The hotel is fairly central to the government and social buildings of the city, although away from the bazaar and shopping. Its a circular hotel, to resemble a huge yurt with three floors. The ground foor is reception, a huge open area lounge bar, open plan restaurant, bar and offices. Outdoor pool which was absolutely fithy durty and patio/bar area and gardens ith some very random birds in cages including a sad looking raptor. Geese prowl the gardens and and don't like the guests. I could not find the advertised gym and sauna. My room was on the first floor. Very dark and dingy, although a comfy bed, kettle to make drinks and a fridge. TV with very limited channels in Russian and Turkmen. Air con did not work so room was very warm in the 25+ degree heat. Bathroom worked well with lots of hot water and towels. Service non existent in restaurant and bar area and had to ask reception to find anyone to serve me. Breakfast had to be ordered the night before and picked from a menu. Nothing to get excited about but at least it weas fresh. Free water in the rooms. I wouldn't choose to stay here again, however there's not a lot of choice in the area.
