Nice looking hotel on the surface

Reviewed By 161rhyse

We were very much looking forward to this holiday after seeing the hotel pictures and recent reviews. Unfortunately, this joy and holiday excitement went rapidly downhill on arrival at the hotel. We arrived past 10pm due to delayed flight (not hotel fault but all too familiar at the moment). There were only 2 staff at reception and, although very polite and professional, took ages with every check-in giving every detail rather than just take basic details and move on. We missed the evening meal and as there were no snacks available and following a 7 hour journey, including delays and transfers, we had no choice but to use the upstairs restaurant (not included in the half board package). The order was 1 slouvaki (1 skewer of pork) with a salad dressing, a small moussaka and 2 medium glasses of house white set us back €35. Then we got to the "Deluxe" room with sea view! Well, you couldn't deny you could see the sea. That's when you cast your eye to the right as straight ahead was a building site, with the noises associated including tree cutting, and to the left was the road which then swept across the whole hotel. Traffic noise was something we were trying to get away from on our holiday. Oh and there was a distinct smell of sewage as I assumed the sewage tank was directly below but I can't guarantee that is what it was. To be fair to the supervisor, George, did what he could to move us 48 hours later into an identical room on the top floor and in the next block across. This lessened the traffic, moved away from the smell and had a better view. Thank you George. Food - I'm not going to waste my or your time with detail but get there early or you will need to stand up by a full dirty table while you wait for one of the very few staff to clear it and reset. You will then need to play the game of anticipate the new food tray arrival or make do with luke warm to virtually cold food. The only hot thing at breakfast is the coffee and at dinner is the soup. Bar - there is no All Inclusive option and they definitely capitalise on the fact that the nearest bars are a 15-20 minute walk away. If you drink take plenty of money. Local draught beer €7, Sml to Med wine €5. 2 x Baileys €15. Whisky etc €€€. Entertainment - 2 nights only (same act) Service - you would think it was the end of season, rather than the beginning. No smile, no pleasantries, just "what do you want and how are you going to pay". Pay cash and watch for the snatch from your hand. Pay to your room and you had better keep your eye on the total as it shoots up VERY quickly. Positives - such a lovely island with nice beaches and a great pool area of the hotel with fantastic views. BBQ night was nice and had a couple playing Greek tunes Tip - if you want white wine, buy the €17 bottle.

My husband and I just finished our stay at Mystery hotel for our honeymoon. We have visited many countries and luxury hotels in our life, but this by far exceeded all our previous experiences. The location, accommodation and food were top notch. But the hotel staff was the best part of our experience. From the second of our arrival, the staff was warm, welcoming, and helpful. They made sure to go above and beyond to offer us the most exceptional time in Skiathos. We truly hope to one day make a trip back to Skiathos and if we do, we will no doubt stay at Mystery hotel. Best trip we’ve had. Thank you for the incredible hospitality!!!

Just scrapping by 4 star hotel

Reviewed By dee238_123

Stayed recently & there are good and bad points, but ultimately I don't feel the hotel is not quite a 5 star hotel. Good points: grounds are really nice, pools are big & very inviting, apart from the aloof & generally rude reception staff, all other staff are very polite, helpful & friendly I read some comments that the snacks, food & drinks were expensive but don't think this is quite the case, slightly more than outside bars and restaurants which I'd expect. The beach is beautiful & during our visit there were lots of sun lounges. The hotel is literally on the beach, 1 minute walk from your room & your on the beach. So the bad bits: when we arrived there was an issue with the electric door card & the room electrics, we basically had no electric for an entire day/evening so were unable to shower or charge phones. The best the hotel could offer was a complimentary drink in the bar!! The breakfast is OK, not great but not quite 5 star either, quite basic The room light switches were back to front & upside-down, so when we came in the switches were always on the on position & the first switch was for the bathroom, quite annoying but more importantly attention to detail. The bathroom handle kept falling off & the room air conditioning didn't work. Reported that it wasn't working but it still didn't work during our stay, it made a lot of noise but the room was very hot. The rooms are so dated, very 80's, old fashioned hairdryer, very strange shower set up in the bath, the shower has been placed on the side wall & not the end wall which makes it a bit of a squeeze to get under. 5 star hotel & their idea of a completely mini bar is a fridge with four bottles of water that aren't even topped up. Coffee & sugar wasn't topped up either during our stay Cleaning ladies did the most basic clean, made the bed & replaced the towels. Complementary toiletries were not replenished either. There is a children's playground which is beyond basic cheap & awful. They have put up a little white picket fence & gate & what looks like they've had a supermarket sweep round toys are us, basically thrown in a bunch of plastic outdoor toys, they really think this represents 5 star! Not very imagative. The princess resort seems to be a chain of what seems most of the islands 5 star hotels, so even if you try another one of the islands top hotels, their probably going to be the same highly priced over rated accommodation. If you do stay here, the beach, pool & grounds may make it a bit more enjoyable

Fantastic hotel and lovely staff

This is a great hotel, clean, modern and well placed by the harbour. It is just a short walk to the shops and restaurants. The view is amazing, and it is worth paying extra for a sea view room, as you can see a beautiful panoramic view across the harbour and town. The staff are super helpful and will always assist. The breakfast roof terrace is fantastic with gorgeous views across the Aegean. The food is great with a massive choice of hot food, some lovely Greek specialities, and lots of cold meats, pastries etc. There's a great pool with a bar where you can get snacks. 100% we would recommend this hotel, and we would stay there again.

The hotel is beautiful. We had a stunning room with fantastic view. Everything about the room was quality and the comfort factor was great. Where it let us down. Drinks very expensive. No ambience at the bar. Very few used it. Breakfast was acceptable. We stayed half board and dinner was average. I would not recommend half board. Staff at reception friendly. But we found the restaurant were not very welcoming. Staff didn’t acknowledge you. Very reluctant to clear plates between courses. Talked a lot between themselves rather than looking after their guests. Ordered a glass of wine and the measure was so small possibly half a glass at the most. . Always our trips to Skiathos we have been made to feel special. Not here I’m afraid. Please improve your standards as we would love to come back. Be competitive and you’d have your bar full. You have a lot of competition out there.

The guys are so helpful, welcoming & friendly. Amazing location. Maid service every day when we left the apartment. We booked the superior double and asked for a ground floor room (104). The most relaxing & quiet atmosphere to say it’s in the middle of pap street. The room & bathroom for us felt a little claustrophobic and wished we had booked the larger room so will do this when we return. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for making our stay enjoyable guys. We will be back.

Fantastic hotel in Skiathos town

Reviewed By MikeandLindz2014

We've stayed on Skiathos three times previously to this trip but have always stayed at different places away from the main town. This time we thought it would be nice to stay in the town itself and sample all the restaurants without having to worry about getting back to our hotel by bus or taxi. What a gem the Mouria turned out to be, a family run hotel situated just off the main Papadiamante Street. It has its own courtyard restaurant surrounded by jasmine and bougainvillea where they serve really tasty fresh fish, (the owners husband has his own fishing boat). We were greeted on arrival by the owner Areti and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was lovely, taken in the courtyard, the room was a really good size with a balcony, free wi fi and air con and fridge, the room was cleaned every day by Monica and Areti was always on hand with advice and information. We usually ended the evening with an ice cold Mythos, sat on cushions just beside the side entrance watching the world go by and trying to befriend the hotel cats. it was our best holiday on Skiathos so far and we hope to revisit in the future.

Lovely hotel overlooking the sea

Reviewed By Karen H

Spent a lovely week in Skiathos at this lovely hotel. When we arrived we carried our cases up the stairs to reception but no one was about. However once someone appeared we were greeted very well and were offered a nice welcome drink at the bar which was made by Alex the hotel manager. I must say the staff are great here and a special mention goes to Maria who was always happy and very helpful. The pool area was lovely and as the hotel had just opened it wasn't busy and there was always a sun bed available. Towels were provided which was a nice touch. The room was a suite with a big balcony over looking the sea with a lovely view of the town which is about 10-15 mins walk away. There were 114 steps up to our room and although fine for us, this hotel would not be suitable for older guests. Our room very spacious and the bed was very comfortable. It was a little hit and miss if we got our tea and coffee replenished and on a couple of occasions we only had one towel between the 2 of us and no toilet roll left on one occasion. On 2 occasions a cleaning rag was left in the bathroom. The biggest area for improvement however would be the breakfast service. Sometimes you waited quite a while to be asked if you wanted tea and coffee and for the order to be taken, On other days this was done quickly but then we were given the wrong order or someone else's order. The toaster didn't really work and they had to change the coffee machine during that week also. Not sure why all these things were not tested the week before the hotel opened? In summary - this is a great little hotel in a good location but the breakfast service just needed to be organised a lot better which I am sure will improve as the season goes on.
