Acceptable hotel, crummy restaurant

Reviewed By Luis R

The hotel is only sightly below-par, with average cleanliness and service, but a dreadfull indoor pool, inside what seems to be a rundown shack. But do yourselves the favour of steering away from the restaurant: makeshift a la carte dishes, incredibly explensive, questionable ingredients... utter rubbish. All in all, a forgettable experience, no to be repeated.

We loved everything. From the great and very profissional welcome to the the last detail. Historical property run by three lovely sisters who provide you an authentic experience of portuguese hospitality, that is sometimes hard to find in a fastfood tourism world. I very much recommend this familiar and cosy hotel for its great location and beauty and quality of the staff and services. Room 17 was excelent, great mattress for our sored backs, hot water with great pressure in the shower and an amazing view to the Vouga river. Dinner and breakfast at the hotel's restaurant was excellent. I simpley adored talking a bit with those amazing ladies. One of them told me the history of the hotel and one took me on a "guided tour" to see some old postecards and photos. Thank you so much, we had a great time and you three are definitely ambassadors of portuguese heritage, that we need so much to protect and share.

Avoid. I was stranded in S Pedro do Sul looking for new accommodation upon arrival

Reviewed By Aniskaia

Terrible experience... I ended up having to find a alternative accommodation for the night in S. Pedro do Sul. I booked a room through Booking.com with the filter of Pets Allowed and completed the reservation with a clear indication on the form that pets were indeed allowed something I have done with success several times on Booking. This time upon arrival I was told by the owner that my dog would have to be lodged in a locked kennel outside as Pets were not allowed in the premises. I have an epileptic senior dog that has to be under permanent surveillance and this solution is obviously not adequate for my situation. While the owner was communicating me this they had an off leash large dog on the property that attacked my dog that was with her leash on. The owner did nothing to stop his dog from attacking mine and when I went to pull it apart from my dog he warned me to be careful as his dog would bite people. After this I just tried to keep his dog apart from mine as I tried to reach my car to leave and had to find a different accommodation for the nigh. Worst experience I ever had regarding accommodation....

The worst hotel I've ever stayed in

Reviewed By laurabQ5043UQ

I've been careful about how I wrote this, as I do not intend to unfairly slur or critique a hotel. I know that reviews are important for business, and that a poor one may negatively impact the hotel, but after the experience I've just had I feel it necessary. We arrived at the hotel late on Tuesday evening, and were greeted by a receptionist with very little English (understandable as its a foreign country but part of the hotel's description includes English speaking staff). The receptionist told us that our price did not include the pool. I told her we wouldn't be using the indoor pool as there is an outdoor pool (clearly advertised on Booking.com). The receptionist told us that the outdoor pool was unavailable (no reason given) and told us if we wantes the indoor pool it would be €20 per person, per day. Going to a sunny country from Ireland, we were very excited for the pool, and were extremely disappointed without it. Exhausted, we said that we would have a think about it and get back in the morning. Upon entering the hotel room, we noted that the Air Conditioning was broken, there was no safe (advertised on Booking.com), no balcony, and the fan in the bathroom was not working. We decided to wait to speak to a receptionist with better English, but when we approached the desk at lunch time the next morning we saw the same receptionist. We explained that we weren't happy with the room. We eventually were given a new room on Thursday, following several interactions with reception (no English speaking receptionist available) and a very intimidating interaction with a member of housekeeping, who proceeded to speak very aggressively at me in Portuguese when she realised I was unhappy with the room. She actually knocked on the door a few minutes after we got the new room and walked in to inspect it! Unfortunately this was not the last of alercations with this housekeeper. Our new room had no safe, no balcony furniture and was very outdated. We couldnt use the wardrobe as it smelled very bad, musty. The room was not cleaned once during our stay. By day 4 we had to go to reception and ask for towels and toilet paper. They couldnt understand us and we only got towels. Our toilet stopped working by Friday and we had to manually flush it. The food in the hotel was poor. Breakfast was free but not good at all. Dinner was €25 a head, very expensive for the village, and consisted of reheated meat and salty potatoes. On Saturday evening while going for dinner, the housekeeper mentioned earlier walked past us, shouted 'Oi!' to us, and then told us in broken English that she was sorry she never got the chance to clean the room. We said it was ok (even though it obviously isnt but she was very intimidating), walked off, and she shoted 'Oi!' at us again, asking if we wanted towels (we had gotten our own that day from reception). The hotel also claims to have sound proofed rooms, and this is also a lie. Building was taking place in the hotel and we heard every bit of it. We also heard the several dozen bicyclers open their hotel rooms, drag their bikes and slam their doors in the morning. We got little to no sleep throughout our stay. Honestly, this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. It was so bad thay we cut our trip short by 2 days and flew home. I've never been so disappointed or disgusted. In all honesty we were conned. Their pool, their amenities, its all lies. It's a run down, dark, dingey hotel that may have been good in its day but now its an embarrassment and a rip off. Dont give your money to this hotel. You'll ruin your own holiday.

I stayed there for 2 weeks doing the thermal baths in the village. It is walking distance to the spas, about 5 minutes. I was very happy with the room, everyone very pleasant. There is no restaurant, just breakfast if you want it. Cable TV so at least there were some channels in English, French and Spanish. Good value for money.
