Country House Vrisch Gewagt

Karoo Heaven

Reviewed By Rose M

This was our second stay at Paradys Huis at Vrisch Gewacht. It is an incredibly beautifully decorated old farm house with 360 degree views of the stunning Karoo. We love the stillness, and peace of this setting. There are plenty of farm animals which our girls love to see, and feeding the claves was a treat. They love the freedom of riding on the farm roads. The dam is stunning. The walks are lovely. And the olives and olive oil, and farm eggs are delicious! We will definitely be back. Chantelle looks after her guests so beautifully!

De Bergkant Lodge

The De Bergkant Lodge is a historical Cape Dutch Guest House located in the beautiful, historical town of Prince Albert at the foot of the dramatic Swartberg mountains in the Great Karoo. The De Bergkant Lodge offers their guests four Deluxe Suites with lounge, bedroom and en suite bathroom, and five equally well-appointed Deluxe Double Rooms with en suite bathroom. All rooms have ceiling fans, air-conditioning, tea- and coffee facilities, TV (with DStv) and most have under-floor heating. All the bathrooms have our famous double showers, Victorian baths and under-floor heating for chilly winter days (which occur just occasionally). Fluffy cotton towels ensure that you feel pampered. All beds are either twin- or king size. Our linen is 100% pure cotton. Breakfast for our guests is served either inside in our poolside dining room or on the terrace in the garden beneath the trees. Much of our fare on our breakfast buffet comes from the village and local farms in and around Prince Albert. Prince Albert is famous for its delicious fruits and the milk, yoghurt and prize-winning cheeses from Gay's Guernsey Dairy. Guests will enjoy at the De Bergkant Lodge a breakfast which is a delight in taste and presentation. The secluded gardens boast two large saltwater swimming pools: a 15m pool surrounded by verdant lawns and a 10m walled, private pool. We also offer a sauna and steam bath and hidden in a private garden you will find a small "star" bath.

No Warm Water

NO hot water available to shower on the morning of our departure. Load shedding was the reason given. One would think that load shedding has been with us for years and will be in future so a backup like solar heating is to be invested in
