Unparalleled Stay in Paternoster

Reviewed By Andrew H

We stayed at the Strandloper Ocean Boutique as part of our honeymoon trip up the West Coast of SA, and we could not have had a better stay with them. From the moment we arrived to when we were packed off to the airport with a breakfast package in the car, they thought of every detail, and made sure we felt like their top guests. What an incredible spot, with the most amazing views for dinner at their restaurant - Leeto - which had some of the best food we ate in Paternoster. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone staying there, and would definitely go back.

Disappointed in the breakfast- only selected items available when booking was made as bed & breakfast. We also struggle with the bathroom door that did not want to open once closed - we had issues with power supply but the supervisor on duty was very helpful.

Stay at Emily

Within a short walk to the Bekbaai beach in Paternoster, the charming self-catering cottage known as Stay at Emily in Paternoster is already a big hit with visitors to our village. This is thanks to its architect-designed layout, warm and homely ambience, wonderful location and a record of excellent hospitality. Stay at Emily boasts a 2-bedroom cottage and two additional two-sleeper apartments. It can accommodate 8 people comfortably; however each unit is self-contained, therefore it is also suitable for couples or singles. Emily invites you to enter a world of seclusion and relaxation, but you can still stay connected; complimentary WiFi is available throughout the house, and each unit has a television set offering a range of DSTV programs. While you may be enjoying this private space in a self-catering mode, rest assured that your hosts at Paternoster Manor are right next door! If you opt for a lazy morning without cooking, you can walk around to enjoy a sumptuous breakfast in the Manor Dining Area – just make advance arrangements with our team. Whether you are a group of 4 wanting to relax in Emily Main cottage with its classic fisherman’s cottage styling, or a couple or single seeking the privacy of a more compact self-contained unit - Emily Upstairs or Emily Downstairs - you could easily fall in love with Emily!

Disappointing Experience

Reviewed By traveldlite

This Fisheman’s Cottage could offer so much more… Sadly there are few touches and one gets the impression that it has been decorated with arb pre- loved bits and pieces. There is really no theme that features in the cottage. Maintenance is at an all time low with little thought to upgrade. The patio overlooks a poorly designed and zero maintained garden. Filthy cushions are the first impression that one gets on arrival. Carpets scattered here and there are dirty and threadbare. The kitchen offers sub standard crockery and cutlery with holey dish towels - we went and bought decent dish towels as well as bathroom air freshener. We requested that the gas oven be cleaned? Couldn’t use as it was still dirty. There is absolutely no supervision and I think over time, this cottage has regressed rather poorly. The upstairs area is unbearably hot and uncomfortable with a tacky corner bathroom “hidden” with two unattractive screens. The upstairs lounge seriously looks like an afterthought with terrible furniture and a small TV. The furniture was dusty and again, a shabby mix and match… Walking on the upper level is unapologetically noisy from downstairs. Doors are not easy to open or close, draws are missing handles, the bathroom is adequate and towels have seen better days. The Location of Stay at Emily’s is great and the views, lovely. I do feel that the owners need to step up and not hide behind the casual “fisherman’s cottage” and put some honest effort into a dying misfit of mix and match which is uncomfortable and disappointing. Paternoster boasts many fresh and airy accommodations, with this forgotten gem lagging on many levels. A disappointing experience ?

Really enjoyed our stay

Very nice "boutique hotel" accomodation. Spacious Room - Suite with Seaview No.9 - with balcony and seaview, all amenities/facilities, fridge, safe etc. Nice atmosphere & interieur. Hadn´t any food there, service was attentive & friendly. Parking in front of the hotel, free of charge. It´s a 5-10 minute walk to the beach near "die Gaatje" Restaurant, then another 10-15 minutes to "Voorstrand Restaurant" down at the beachfront. All in all we had a perfect afternoon in lovely Paternoster which has a fantastic atmosphere indeed - kind of "little Netherlands". End of April = end of season, very nice, not so many people.
