A clean, basic hotel with poor wifi
Reviewed By Jim HWe were greeted by a friendly hostess when we checked in – and the rooms were clean, but without blackout curtains, which I consider necessary at this latitude in the summer months. WiFi was non-existent in many parts of the building, in spite of the fact that we received personalized passwords for accessing it. I found that if I stood next to a particular plastic bush I had excellent reception. I couldn’t get any from my room. Their breakfast was good, and the dining room has a great view.

Then the door to reception was wedged open with a radio blaring and people talking until 4am when I told them I wanted to sleep. A basic human need. Yes an interesting concept to use the old jail as a hotel and without disturbances of people also barging into the room it would have been OK. Bed and Breakfast was good. Suggest when booking you ask if they are having a dance there. Then go elsewhere if you want to actually sleep.

Im Jahr 1802 als Logierhaus erbaut, erlebte das heutige solewerk Hotel Sächsischer Hof eine ereignisreiche Vergangenheit. Viele liebenswerte Details erinnern an die 200-jährige Geschichte. Das Feinschmeckerrestaurant „Die Posthalterei“ und die rustikale „Kutscherstube“ lassen die Tradition der Fürsten von Thurn und Taxis wieder auferstehen.

Reviewed By Merz45This hotel is over two hundred years old and any number of famous people have stayed here over the centuries. Many of them are recorded in pictures on the walls (it’s worth wandering round to study them) and a life-sized statue of Brahms (uncannily colored blue) greets you at the entrance. One of the great advantages here is the central location. The hotel is right next to the Schlossgarten and the Englischer Garten and both make a beautiful place for a stroll. It’s also very near the theatre, the museums and the town centre, all within easy walking distance. Picturesque is generally not associated with comfort and practicality, so don’t expect your room to be as convenient as that in a more modern hotel. But our room, at the back, if a bit stuffy, was pleasant enough and really quiet, if you discount the rushing waters of the river at the rear of the hotel; the mattress was rather too soft for me, but that’s just my personal preference. The staff were on the whole very friendly, the breakfast, at extra cost, was very good. (The earlier criticisms about the hotel breakfast on Trip Advisor no longer apply.) There is free wi-fi and free parking available, a lift, a cafe (excellent) and a restaurant (which we didn’t try). Recommended, especially if you like to savour a hotel with an historic aura.

Reviewed By missliskLovely little hotel. Friendly staff. no English speakers, but still very helpful. Clean and tidy hotel. Stayed in one of the rooms on the top floor. Double room with walk in shower. Breakfast was included and did not have very much for a vegan but the coffee was delicious and there was vegan butter for my brown bread so I can’t complain. Bed was very comfortable and the Wi-fi was fast! Only complaint was that the toilet made a very loud noise for about 3-5mins after it was flushed, which was annoying. Other than that, I’d recommend this place.

Unser Haus befindet sich im Zentrum Meiningens. Erreichbar über die A71 Abfahrt Meiningen Nord zur Innenstadt und in die Anton-Ulrich-Straße 19 bis vor das Hotel. Alle Zimmer sind modern und hell eingerichtet. Das Frühstück Continental im schönen Gewölbe oder im Restaurant. Wir freuen uns auf Ihren Besuch.

But consider that the rooms are small (at least mine was), and the hotel itself is not very spacious. I was there in the summer, so the breakfast room was packed. There was enough space to sit, of course, but it's in the cellar, so the ceiling is low and when the room is full you can't help to feel a little bit uneasy. But it's not a big deal, I mean, it's a nice hotel and my room was cleaned every day so no complaints at all :)

Obwohl gebucht - kein Frühstück
Reviewed By sabinefO9807NGObwohl mit Frühstück gebucht, wurde keins angeboten, weil ich wohl die einzige war, die Frühstück gebucht hatte. Stattdessen wurde ich zum Bäcker geschickt. Nur hatte der am Sonntag leider geschlossen. Schade, so musste ich die Rückreise ohne Sonntagsfrühstück antreten. Das Zimmer selbst war in Ordnung und sauber.
