Excellent Douro experience
Reviewed By BrooklynScruffsWe spent a night at the Quinta da Pacheca and had a very pleasant time. The hotel itself has a tasteful mix of new build around older buildings. In terms of location, the Quinta is right in a bend on the Douro, surrounded by vineyards. We stayed in the new rooms (the old rooms were under renovation). The rooms were very nice and comfortable. The restaurant was very good. The service was friendly and attentive. I was struck by how quiet it was. Even though there are some event spaces and the night we stayed there was a large party with music - surprisingly there was little or no noise leaking into the rest of the hotel.

Fancy on the outside with large carpet stains in the room
Reviewed By travel2findoneselfImpressive from the outside but when I checked in I noticed a huge stained carpet and when I called the reception to report, she asked me if it bothers me... really? At first she said she could change room but came back and said she couldn't because they are full...also, safety box is not in the room but with the reception....you decide if all this "bothers" you or not before you book.

Reviewed By EuropeozGood location, good size room near town. Check in fast and professional and room a good size with couch, large bathroom (shower tap takes forever to get right temp). Parking garage is very narrow, limited parking and hard to navigate, most people seemed to park outside

Nice hotel with magnificent view

The pool nice and quiet (May 2022) we missed some variety in the breakfast options but overall this was a very good stay. Touristic tips or excursions available. Thank you.

Fun evening "Cooking with the Countess"
Reviewed By Tom HWell, our couple hour visit of cooking local Portuguese extended for over four hours as we visited with both the Contessa Maria and her assistant MaryAnn. What a completely enjoyable evening. We learned a couple cooking tricks using an old wooden stove of all things. Not only did we bake stuffed bread, but we made soup, pork tenderloin medallions, stuffed mushroom caps and the best creme Brule we have ever had. My wife so enjoyed wandering thru the house looking at all the features and decor. We stopped to talk with other guests and ate a fabulous meal all the while the Contess was greeting and interacting with other guests. One of those unexpectedly fun nights which is certainly worth repeating. If at all possible be sure to add this to your tour of Douro Valley area.

Quinta da Salada, with 8 hectares of vineyards, is located in Cambres- Lamego, in the Douro Demarcated Region, in the area classified as World Heritage, 3.5 km from the city of Peso da Regua and 6km from the city of Lamego. Our accommodation unit resulted from the remodeling of the old “Casa dos Caseiros”, transformed into a charming accommodation unit, with 6 rooms and an an outdoor pool.
A very special place
Reviewed By JmumLondonQuinta da Salada is the most beautiful, magical place.. The service provided by the owners, Leonor and Rui and their son Renardo was outstanding - warm, engaging and professional. They have created an ambience which is intimate and cosy, yet also luxurious and sophisticated- a difficult balance to strike. On arrival we were greeted by Renardo, who has a natural warmth that set the tone for our entire stay. The setting is breathtaking- we were able to walk through the vineyards which also boast stunning orange, pear and plum trees. The Quinta is beautifully decorated throughout and Leonor clearly has a wonderful eye for design. She and Rui gave us many helpful suggestions and recommendations, all of which were superb and added greatly to our enjoyment of our stay. And the breakfasts! They were plentiful (you won’t need lunch) and absolutely delicious (I’ve never tasted fruit, breads, meats and eggs so fresh), sourced mainly from the Quinta itself. Leonor, Rui and Renardo and the wonderful team of staff were always on hand - attentive but never intrusive. We have not left yet but we are already planning our next stay. It will be difficult to stay away for too long!

Good service, nice rooms and fantastic breakfast with fresh fruit, freshly baked buns, croissants, apple cake etc. Great value. But, it would be nice if they also could offer dinner. No big menu, but 3-4 basic dishes based on local traditions. That is what most guests would really enjoy. We drove to Lamego to eat dinner, but the town was «dead as a doornail» with very few places that tempted a dinner visit. And we drove and walked around for an hour. Nothing happening on Saturday morning either, such as a market etc. Other than the church on the hill and stairway to it, Lamego was a disappointment. Maybe too late in the season on Sep. 21?

In need of a complete overhaul
Reviewed By ChapLondon2Rather daunting to be faced with a long flight of external steps on arriving - having to drag a suitcase up this staircase is not acceptable. However, I discovered the following day that suitcases can be brought up in the lift from the car park - it would have been helpful to know this upon arrival! This is a very simple hotel which is extremely old-fashioned. The bedrooms and public areas are furnished with outdated furniture. The bar is like a funeral parlour in both style and atmosphere. On the plus side, the beds are clean and neat, with much-needed duvets. The bathroom has no heating whatsoever and the floor is like a block of ice. The shower in the bathroom was so small that - if I turned around - there was no way to avoid turning off the water by mistake. The (non-mixer) taps in the handbasin were so stiff that I had to call for help to open them. The balcony has no furniture on it. There are no 'frills' here: no drinking water in the rooms, no 'fridge, no security box. The breakfast was the most meagre I have ever encountered in Portugal. Supermarket sliced cheese and ham - no choices. Poor quality, tasteless yoghurt from Lidl. No sliced fruits. Very ordinary breads. It took determination to get the serving staff (dressed from head to toe in hazmat suits and masks) to provide hot water for the teabags I'd brought with me (no black tea on offer, as usual here). My request (in Portuguese) for hot water with cold milk served separately at first resulted in boiling water with a large quantity of milk mixed into it....... There is no restaurant - guests are forced to go outside to find dinner. The location is quite good (ten minute flat walk to the cathedral) but that was the only point to commend it.

The check in was easy (thank you Ricardo!) and we were given the opportunity to upgrade to a sumptuous suite for a (very) small extra cost. Our room was breathtaking. The decor, comfortable bed, and great linens all made our stay relaxing. Our overnight included breakfast - delicious. Highly recommend.
