Hans Egede Hotel

The nicest hotel in Nuuk and a great place stay during our Greenland adventures.

Reviewed By TravelJunkieFlorida

No question the top hotel in Nuuk. The service was fantastic. The hotel staff was very cordial. I had to print some documents and the front desk staff were very helpful. Fabulous buffet breakfast each morning. We also met each evening in the lounge for after dinner drinks. We dined at the hotel restaurant (Hereford Beefstou) which has the most wonderful grilled meats. Highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

A short distance out of the centre, but Nuuk isn’t big so it doesn’t matter. Mickey couldn’t do enough and he deserves special mention for making my stay great. The kitchen does do food, but closes weirdly early in the evenings. This is a not for profit hotel that helps the homeless in Nuuk, and that’s a good thing. You really don’t want to be homeless during winter here !

Lovely hotel in Ilulissat!

Reviewed By mrsimon08

The staff is absolutely lovely and go beyond your expectations. The hotel is brand new and very clean. If you want space, book a suit otherwise the rooms aren’t very large. The breakfast is absolutely lovely!!! The hotel does free airport shuttle to/from the airport. Only thing I see they could improve is the gym, there were roll-out beds placed in there which was kind of blocking places, and as I do HIIT which requires a lot of space, I would really remove those beds and perhaps put a bench press. Thank you for having us!

Hotel Nordlys

Authentic Greenland experience close to Ilulissat

Reviewed By 558nanometres

I stayed 2 nights here in early May, while winter still had a strong grip on the east Greenland coast. It is owned and operated by generous host Ole, who will pick you up from Ilulissat fisherman's harbour (beside the Royal Greenland factory), convey you by scenic boat trip to Rode Bay and also cook meals for you if booked at reservation. The hotel is very simple, rooms are spacious and comfortable - this is all about the ultra authentic Greenland experience living in a tiny village. The best things about Hotel Nordlys are - no electronic/internet distractions, being in the great wide Greenlandic outdoors and feeling the flow of village life for a couple of days. There is a restaurant in the village during summer, and you can go dogsledding in winter. At all times of year, icebergs will go quietly drifting by the bay while you read your books in the conservatory with floor-to-ceiling windows. In darker months, you should be able to see Aurora Borealis dance above the hills from the same conservatory. I had a very peace time being away from all distractions, with plenty of space to walk and enjoy the outdoors. I would recommend for couples, friends and solo adventurers. Families - there are working dogs in the village, so be sure that you and the kids are fully on point about correct Greenland dog etiquette.

Outstanding service!!

We had planned on staying here after completing the Arctic Circle Trail. We however turned around and never made it to Sisimiut. Prior to leaving Kangerlussuaq we had a bag shipped there so we would have clean clothes and other necessities. Even though we cancelled our reservation the hotel staff went way above and beyond anything I would expect in getting our bag returned to Kangerlussauq. They were amazing. If they will work so hard for someone who isn't paying to stay there, imagine how a real guest would be treated. My sincerest thanks to everyone at the hotel!

Made me feel safe and at home

Reviewed By Luzmonteagudo

I checked in at the Hvide Falk Hotel on the 8th October 2021 and stayed there for 3 days. I cannot thank them enough. I arrived there completely shocked after a bad experience in an Airbnb accomodation in Ilulissat (at that time there was a murder in town, human bodies' parts were found in the garbage and I felt quite unsafe at the Airbnb accomodation located in a poorly lighted area surrounded by factories since even the police were recomending not go alone in such places). Even though there were no available rooms at the Hotel's website, the woman at the reception managed to find a room for me: she suggested me to wait for one guest who was due to check out soon and invited me to have a seat and relax at the lounge while waiting. When the guest finally checked out, they prepared the room very quickly so that I could sleep a bit after two sleepless nights, and made sure I was feeling ok. It felt like being at home. I had an injured shoulder and they didn't mind warming up in the microwave the warm pad I'd bought for the pain (sometimes they even offered me to warm it up without asking them to do it). Next day I joined a whale watching boat trip organised by the hotel, and it was so wonderful. It was a very comfortable boat and I was lucky enough to see 5 whales!!! Thank you so much, guys, for being so attentive and kind. When a solo traveller feels unsafe and is injured as I was, some comfort and kindness is crucial to feel better. You all have made me feel safe and comfortable. Special thanks to the reception woman, Vilhelmine, who is also a courageous boat captain with amazing abilities to spot whales. Thank you also to her boat helper (sorry, I can't remember your name) for having shared with me a lot of interesting information about the whales and the life in Greenland. You are fantastic people! Without the help and kindness of the Hvide Falk Hotel staff, this trip wouldn't have been the same and my idea of Greenland would have been now completely different. All the best for you. QUJANAQ.

Still same friendly service

We had stayed at Hotel Avannaa 6 years ago and were keen to return when next in Ilulissat. We found that it had changed hands since last time but the new caretakers are fantastic, and so helpful. Especially when planes were being rescheduled due to the world melting down due to COVID-19 and had weather delaying flights, they would keep an eye on things and call Airlines for us. The rooms are comfy and the views from the ocean side are as fantastic as ever and the light is constantly changing. See pic. It's a bit of a walk into town so bring your spikes if travelling in winter, otherwise taxis are plentiful. We'll be staying there again next time was well. Geoff & Annette (Australia)

Really fun place

Reviewed By BD12

It's Tasiilaq so don't expect The Plaza. Nice little hotel, great folks, food was decent, rooms about what you'd expect: small beds - small bath but part of the adventure. Only complaint was window shades (summer) need to be much thicker to block light. Room was so bright all night long got very little sleep; I can sleep thru nuclear detonation but light really screws me up. Hotel staff has really good relationship w local tours and stuff to do. Scheduled boat and helicopter trip short notice and both worked out great. Gorgeous view of the harbor and fjord Only other complaint: Really pricey but I guess Greenland tourism on the rise so everyone making hay while sun shinin Great walks around hotel.
