Nice location. Rooms nice size and clean. Reception and cleaning staff friendly. The restaurant is 'ok' but staff not well trained. The linen is torn and old and there was a big hole in the curtain. All the taps work "EXACTLY the wrong way round, which is really confusing and you can't clean your teeth in the basin as there is no room between the tap and the plub.?? Last night no hot water in the bath. At breakfast we ordered an English Breakfast, and were told they had 'run out of sausages'. Then we asked for toast and they came back and told us they had run out of brown bread!! This hotel used to be a real little gem in its time, as the surrounds are really lovelt, but unfortunately is is fast going downhill. They won't see us again. A Great pity.

Cockaroach infested dump

Reviewed By hrevelas

Has to rate as one of the worst places I have ever had the misfortune to rent. The room was infested by cockroaches, cupboard doors chipped and in need of paint, cupboard doors don't close, a mechanical pump in Cupboard. Absolutely appalling. David wood not available to speak to and refused refund through the very pleasant Mevis on site. I visited to attend my mother's funeral for a short period and had I stayed longer would definitely reported him to the health department. Unsafe for children in that rooms open directly onto pool with no fence. Illegal in most civilised countries in the west!

Worst experience imaginable

Reviewed By Carmensnippets

I stayed at the hotel through an independent booking (Airbnb). On my first morning there loadshedding happened and I went to the restaurant to get online as I was there to work and had urgent meetings. I ordered a (paid) breakfast and asked the reception for the wifi password. The moment I said that I was not a hotel room guest, it was as if the room went cold. She absolutely refused to give me the wifi password. I appealed to the manager, who told me this facility is for guests. Wasn't I a guest of the restaurant? I asked the manager could he not just help me out, I have a meeting, I'll buy breakfast, I have an urgent meeting... he told me they don't run a charity or other people's businesses. I must take it up with my host. He was so condescending that I was utterly, totally shocked and it really made me mad. Is this what the hospitality industry has come to? It escalated to the point where the manager and his receptionist yelled at me Go! Get in the lift and leave! Granted, I was not a hotel room guest, but I paid for my room at the hotel and the facilities are there for who ever stays in the hotel, and granted, I called him a bad word at the end which I'm not sorry for (he then proceeded to call me the female version of this word loudly for all his guests to hear). It was very obvious to me that there is bad blood between the hotel and the independent rooms. I went in polite, I ordered breakfast, I kindly asked for the wifi password, but the response was incredibly hostile, and no manager should let things escalate the way they did. The message was - there is no warm, kind, hospitable human here - if you pay for a hotel room we will pretend to be sure, but if you are an Airbnb guest don't expect us to even pretend.

This is an outstanding boutique hotel in Bedfordview. My only complaint is that I did not enter my room until 9:30pm and I left the next morning at 8am. I did not get to spend any quality time there. The rooms are stunning. The bed is so comfortable. The linens and towels are beautiful. I also did not get the opportunity to sample the breakfast, but will next time. This hotel exceeded my expectations.

8 on Acacia Bed & Breakfast

Decent & convenient property but horrific customer service

Reviewed By Vlad O

8 on Acacia is a simple bed & breakfast relatively close to the airport. We stayed there for 2 nights back in July, and while in general the accommodation was adequate, there were several extraordinarily frustrating aspects to our stay that are important to note. I would not stay here again under any circumstance. The good: - Good location for what we needed, close to the airport and freeway - Felt safe, with high walls - Communication with the property before our stay, they quickly responded to messages via WhatsAp and were able to book tours for us. - Comfortable, modern rooms The “just OK”: - Bland and non-descript property. - Every room has a large sliding door going out into a common area so you have to choose between natural light and privacy. - Pool seemed to be in disrepair - It was extremely cold during our (late July) stay and we discovered that the rooms have no built-in heating so it was freezing when we walked in. Upon request the property provided space heaters that helped. - Breakfast was plentiful and cooked to order, but on the second day (when we were rushing to make our flight) it took forever (45 minutes) and there were limited choices. Juices cost extra. The bad: 1) The property did not return one of our shirts from the (paid) laundry service and has refused to pay to ship it back to us. On our final day we paid for laundry and were told it would be done by the afternoon. However, because they apparently chose to line-dry it (on a cold winter day) instead of using the available dryers, we did not receive the shirt (a USD $100 Fila tennis shirt) back until 10pm on our final night. We had an early morning flight and in rushing to pack did not immediately notice that one of the shirts was not returned to us. Once we realized the shirt was missing we reached out to the property. They acknowledged they had it but refused to ship it back to us at their expense – even though it is entirely their fault the shirt was left behind. 2) We inadvertently left the property without paying and during the 8 hours it took to sort this out while we were travelling through remote locations we were repeatedly harassed by the proprietor and her minions, with repeated calls, messages, and e-mails, including someone associated with the property looking up my personal social media accounts and leaving public messages on my Facebook wall asking for payment! We used booking.com to reserve this room, and I assumed 8 on Acacia would collect payment through the credit card stored there – as was the case with every other property during our 6-week trip around Africa. During our 3 days/2 nights at this small property, and countless interactions with the manager on duty, at no point did anyone ask for our credit card number. On our final morning they knew we were rushing to catch a flight, I handed the room keys to the manager, she helped us load our luggage into the car, and then we left. Again, no one ever asked us for our credit card and I assumed they had it and were processing the payment automatically. By the time we landed in Victoria Falls the constant calls and manages started coming in, implying that we intentionally skipped town without paying - when nothing could be further from the truth. I responded as soon as I could and assured them I would make a payment that evening from our hotel. Nonetheless, the messages and FB posts continued. This was the most egregious example of disrespect I have ever encountered in all of my travels around the world, and it was caused solely by the incompetence (or lack of processes) of their staff. 3) We booked an all day tour of Soweto & Apartheid Museum through the property, and paid what appeared to be roughly the market rate (1,100 rand per person) for sophisticated tours conducted by knowledgeable locals with first hand experience in the townships. What we got was quite different. The company running the tour is apparently affiliated with the property. Our guide was a polite but passionately disinterested 20-something young man who acted like he had never set foot in Soweto (or any other township). He did not know his way around town, he did not know the local customs (comically arguing with several local parking helpers over a 10 rand (at the time USD $0.65) tip they expected, lying to them that he had paid the other, making them chase us around), did not know the location of restaurants, had never been to the Apartheid Museum, had no interest in ever going, etc. He sat silently while he drove, only responding to our questions, offering such gems as how “there is no point in studying the past as it doesn’t help the future” and explaining how the white South African males are the most endangered species in Africa. In a perverse way this was more eye-opening than one of the normal tours run by locals, but vastly different from what we had expected.
