This elegant oasis has five en-suite rooms, each with its own entrance. Rooms lead to a refreshing country atmosphere in the enchanted garden. Our guest house is pet and child friendly. The main house is an original Sir Herbert Baker, built in 1902 and each garden room has a rich history. We are a small guest house which is owner-operated; therefore we offer individual attention to all of our guests. Traditionally Cape Karoo offers bed and breakfast, but self-catering units are also available. We serve a full English breakfast and dinner (on request) in the communal dining area during winter or in the garden during summer. We also have braai-facilities and “braai”-packs are available for those who want to enjoy the famous organic A-grade Karoo lamb chops..

I flied from Cape Town to Johannesburg with my in-laws, wife and 2 year old son to buy a van. bought the van Friday, stayed in Johannesburg the Friday. we then agreed on driving the van to Beaufort west and sleeping over there because that’s a 9 hour drive and it will be very uncomfortable driving the whole way to Cape Town in 1 night. so I searched booking.com for best review places in Beaufort west. die herehuis, comes up second and within my budget. I then proceed to booking it. immediately the guesthouse messages me confirming my booking and asking weather I would like breakfast and dinner, also wanted to confirm what time I would be arriving. I told them between 8pm and 10pm. I have whatsapps to confirm this. then they tell me the reception closes at 9pm, but I just need to call them apart arriving. very professional. OMG! we arrive at 9:30pm by their gate. place is pitch black dark, however infront of the lodge there is a buzzer for the reception, home number and mobile now. I proceed to clicking to call someone. an hour and a half goes by with me and my family in the freezing cold. I get in the van, start calling from my mobile phone. eventually this young lady answers who can barely communicate properly. said she is coming to open. then tells me she is coming to open. makes us wait another 15 to 20 minutes outside. opens and tells us to come in, this is by the reception gate. opens the office and tells me these words. you staying in room 7 and 10. I’m like where’s the keys. she said in the room. then I’m like fine where is it. no you need to reverse out again with the van and come in the other side. I’m like how will I open. she says no I will open. so then we go around to another gate and she takes her time to come open. we get to our rooms. my in-laws room you could see through the door at number 10. they didn’t have sugar and coffee. while packing out, here comes the lady with an invoice I need to sign, which I could’ve done in the office. I look at the invoice and it’s for 600 and something. I then tell her. I paid 1800 and something for these two rooms. she says sorry ima get another invoice. comes back with two invoices without a pen. goes back to get a pen and comes back with a small glass I’m her hands which looks like the old brown cherry in the reception finished drinking it. by now I’m so pissed off and tired, I just went to bed and left immediately at 5am. didn’t even give us a Wi-Fi code, nor could we see it in their file. I will never book or recommend this place EVER to anyone

The reserve plays host to more than 20 various species of game including Giraffe, Kudu, Gemsbok, Wildebeest and Eland. Bird life is prolific with nearly 200 different varieties recorded on the Reserve.This secluded bush camp consists of 7 chalets, a Lounge / Conference Centre, Bar and Boma surrounded by rocky craggs and the Nuweveld Mountains. The Chalets were designed and built by the game farm owner, Werner Koster, who exclusively used local poplars and stone for their construction. The rustic décor is completed with slate floors, hand made furniture and wood finishes.Stylishly decorated, each chalet sleeps four with an en suite bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and own private braai (barbeque) facility.

We felt so at home in our gorgeously appointed self catering chalet and our two dogs loved the expansive lawn and gardens. It was the perfect stop over for us all en route from Jo'burg to Cape Town, and we'll definitely be back if we need accommodation in the area!

Reviewed By PixmanSAWe stayed here overnight while moving to the Cape - it was or second stopover. Very smart lodge, large rooms and the food was excellent. Parking was safe - we had a trailer and two cars to worry about. No problem there. Recommended.

This time chicken schnitzel for R220??Ridiculous!Also, the toilet wouldn’t flush. Had to use toilet across the hall. Mosquitos!! Should put something in the room for that. Didn’t sleep well at all.

The accommodation was well appointed and clean and the dinner was satisfying. A little off the main road but a pleasant stopover out of town.
