Beautiful grounds and views! But average accommodation.

Although a bit out of the way, I really enjoyed my stay at this place on a recent business trip to Barberton. While the rooms are fairly average, the setting is awesome, with nice grounds, an amazing pool, and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. I stayed in one of the lower long blocks of rooms – a row of about 10 attached rooms. The room was basic & spartan but functional, with a small kitchenette and fridge. I didn’t like the fact that there was no functional computer desk. Even more disappointing was that there was no Wifi in the rooms – you had to go up the hill to the lodge/reception to get email. In this day and age, there is no excuse for not extending Wifi to all of your rooms. The food and service there was reasonably good, and I ate all of my meals there. There is not much to do there. I was hoping for some kind of gym, activity, or sporting equipment around the expansive grounds, but no. I resorted to going on daily runs outside and down the road. The conference facilities were a bit basic unfortunately, even the AC wasn’t working correctly so we had to have all doors open and hope for a breeze. Overall, a bit rough around the edges, but a nice setting. I recommend it to travelers in the area as a good base for exploring the Barberton area. But not really a good place for business people.

Pleasant stay

Reviewed By jennieb_za

We recently stayed a night in this quaint guest house. The owners were helpful and friendly, and our room was comfortable with a lovely stoep (verandah area) overlooking the pool had a beautiful view. The rooms had tea making facilities, although without a bar fridge. A fan was provided, but I would imagine that in the heat of summer the room could be quite stuffy and hot. We had dinner on site - although a good home cooked meal, we felt it was overpriced for what we got. We only realised when we saw the bill the next morning that there was an additional charge for dessert as well as tea and coffee. The breakfast (included in the rate) was good with eggs prepared to order. Generally a pleasant stay.

Windsor Cottage

Windsor Cottage is a winner- Beautifully renovated, homely and welcoming

Reviewed By Sharon B

Thank you to our hostess Desiré for a wonderful stay. Good to know- This is a wonderful choice of accomodation from where to explore the Geotrial, do the Baberton Heritage Walk and also just to relax and soak up the atmosphere. The cottage is beautifully renovated and much care has been taken to ensure a comfortable stay. Two of the bedrooms have double beds and there is a bedroom with twin beds. (A perfect choice for a family of parents, grandparents and children). Desiré is a generous host. We were astonished to find milk, delicious, rusks, tea and coffee waiting for us. There is a bath and a shower. The shower was piping hot, the towels fluffy, the liquid bodysoap heavenly. The cottage is very spacious, well equipped, there is proper DSTV and the kitchen has all you need. We would love to stay a week at least, this is lovely. Esther services the cottage and is a jewel. It is cold during Winter in the evening and Desiré supplied us with a heater. The mountain just hugging the property is spectacularly beautiful. We were impressed by the warmth and hospitality of our hostess and the quality of the accomodation.
