The 10 best hotels in Akaroa, New Zealand

August 11, 2022 Randal Brittian

The French are known as the world’s most romantic people, so it makes sense that Akaroa—site of New Zealand’s first French settlement—is an ideal spot to set the scene for love. Hold hands with your paramour and stroll along the provincial harbor, where dolphins, penguins, and seals bob and chatter in the sparkling ice-blue water. First-class accommodations, quaint French bakeries and succulent restaurants are the perfect ingredients for a romantic getaway.

A 70th Birthday made special

Reviewed By Colin S

This was a three night birthday treat for an Auckland wife and Grandmother, her choice, and the accomodation immediately proved worthy of that decision. Our welcome and ongoing care from our host Jane made us feel truly comfortable, almost like being at home except we don't have a cat called Rosie or chickens to provide fresh eggs every day. L'Abris is a place to come back to, why chance the unknown.

Cosy warm accommodation on a wet weekend

Reviewed By ams255118

Three friends stayed in a 2 bedroom upstairs unit for 2 nights on a wet weekend. The rooms were warm with a very efficient wall fan heater. Electric blankets were on the beds. Everything was clean and the kitchen well equipped. There was no stove top or oven but a microwave and fry pan, sandwich press and toaster. The owners recommended the fish n chip shop across the road called Murphys for dinner and it was amazing. Highly recommend the motel and the fish and chips. The accommodation is steps from waterfront, shops and walks.

Bruce Waterfront Apartments

Definitely not a deluxe apartment as advertised

Reviewed By John T

At close to $250 a night the only deluxe thing about this apartment was the lovely waterfront view from the balcony. Inside is in serious need of a major refurbishment. Furniture is very dated, damaged and worn, carpet is a hideous dirty green and badly worn, some curtains have large stains and are missing glides so that they don’t close properly, aluminium window catches are missing, some light bulbs missing, towels whilst nice and white are of a very small (certainly not luxury) size and overall apartment definitely not clean. Would certainly have expected a lot more for the price.

GREAT LOCATION

Reviewed By Kim P

Nice apartments in a great location to shops and the waterfront. Bathroom and bedrooms are on ground floor with steep staircase to main living area. Our family of 5 were disappointed to find that on arrival Management had given our 3 bedroom apartment to 2 people. We spent most of our evening rearranging bedding in the smaller apartment that was given to us and requesting essential items that hadn't been replaced. Management were dismissive and had told us we should have checked in earlier. If staying here would advise checking in advance that you have the accommodation you have booked and paid for, especially as they charge your credit card before arrival. There are many other great places to stay in Akaroa which we would rather stay at next time.

Fantastic Location

Reviewed By duncancharlotte

Great location and unit. Beautiful view towards the waterfront. Nice clean spacious unit. Just be nicer with carpet not wooden floors. Shower was different as was not separated and the water went everywhere flooding the bathroom floor. Was a bit of a pain to clean up. Could of mentioned this upon checking in.
