Ram Head Trail

Awesome Hike with Awesome Views! I recommend tennis shoes or hiking boots. Best for early morning or late afternoon as it gets hot-amazing views. Landscape dotted with cactus along the way. Our favorite hike while in St John! Hit the Salt Pond beach afterwards! Others have provided information on where to park and how to get to the hike. Very cool to cross over the Blue Cobblestone Beach on the way up!

I highly recommend the tour of Sandra Farms. Until this tour, I had no idea that quality coffee is actually produced in the US, and I've been roasting my own coffee at home for years. I've always wanted to visit an active coffee farm and Israel's tour did not disappoint! I learned a bunch and thoroughly enjoyed the coffee, chocolate and the views. Hearing Israel talk, you can really feel his passion for producing top grade coffee and you gain an appreciation for this unique place. Sure, the road in is a bit of an adventure, but that's just part of the fun! (and it's really not that bad) :-P And for other coffee geeks out there: After getting their green coffee home and trying different roast levels, my favorite is right around City+. It's bright and nutty with hints of fruit (to my palate). It compares well to other premium gourmet and boutique coffees. [Sandra Farms, Wet Process, Medium Coffee. Roast levels evaluated: City, City+, Full City, Full City+, Vienna]

Petit Piton Trail

Reviewed By kelliecole

Climbing Petit Piton will be one of the best hikes I ever do. The St. Lucian forest, the technicality of the trail as it turns from root grabbing to rock face scaling with rope and guide assistance, and the view of the island from the top is one of the best. Ashley Walking Tree (758-722-2413) met us at the main road turn to Sugar Beach and guided the four of us foot by foot, hand hold by hand hold for the next four hours. We are all in good physical shape, started the hike at 7:30am and were finished by 12:30. None of us had experienced a hike quite like this before and Walking Tree made it possible. He takes his job seriously and was able to help me (who's a shorter person) and people in our group who are sometimes afraid of heights. Without him the hike would have been much more difficult, and perhaps longer as the trail is not marked. Walking Tree's demeanor is calm, tells you we'll warm up the body for the first 1/4 of the trail, gauges comfort levels and offers step by step guidelines of how to easily work with the mountain to climb it. It was a great experience with him and I highly recommend the challenge. Walking Tree has 17 years experience hiking Petit Piton and has been teaching his son, Hennison (758-714-4213) to do the same. They can be reached at either number. We scheduled our trip only a day in advance.

We used Shoretrips on a recent Royal Caribbean Cruise. The tour was called: TRAFALGAR FALLS AND EMERALD POOL. We had a group of 14 so we got a private shuttle with a driver named Clem. He was outstanding!! I am not sure of the actual tour company, but if you ever to Dominica, try to look this up and Shoretrips and ask for Clem. Dominica is a very very beautiful country.

Nevis Peak Hike

This volcano is a favorite climbers, hikers and cyclists.

Reviewed By OliveoilYorkshire - Halifax, United Kingdom

I am a 68 year old not so fit grandmother and I did it! The first part, about a third, is on gentle but steep paths through the the forest. Then there is a river gully and ropes and rocks and tree roots. A warning of things to come. I was scared. The next section is all woodland steep pathways with the tree roots providing foot and handholds. The ropes start to become more frequent as the pathways gets steeper. My son lives on Nevis and is a horticulturist so I got some brilliant stuff on species, habitat and special plant characteristics as a bonus. Later I wasn’t listening as I was either so tired or so scared or both. This stretch was muddy and steep. On the last third the gradient really jacked up and instead of tree roots it was mostly rocks and boulders. Nearly all the very steep parts had ropes to help the climb. There were quite a few 15 to 20 foot near verticals. Footholds in most places but the soil was clay and wet so slippy. I did the climb in running shoes as it’s all I had with me and I didn’t have gloves. It was fine and the running shoes gave flexibility. I swallowed my pride and just kept asking my son for stops. Take lots of water and energy food. My Fitbit showed 3000 plus calories. My son was great and kind and didn’t complain about the stops once. It’s me and my stubborn pride and competitiveness that’s the problem not him! Anyway just when i thought it was never going to end. It did. The summit is small. The footprint of my spare bedroom. It was cloudy so no view. There is a box there as others have described but the book inside was wet and spoiled. Note for someone to get a replacement? I’m not doing this again. Don’t want to push my luck. There is a second summit, the higher one with the trig point. My son went off and did that and it took him 40 mins. He said it was overgrown and therefore a bit dangerous as the drops on the edge of the path weren’t visible. I think the journey back down was worse than the way up in many ways. My legs were tired which makes it dangerous and we took a different turn low down so had a hike to the car along the road. Well he did. I sat at Poor Mans Bar and had a cold Guinness!

We hiked from the lower entrance/parking area. It took maybe 45 minutes each way. We are in our early 50's, in good condition, and the hike itself seemed pretty easy. The observation tower has not been rebuilt since Irma knocked it down, but you can still climb up the boulder on top and see a beautiful birds-eye view of Spanish Town. On an island famous for its beautiful beaches, this hike is a nice change of pace for a couple hours. We really enjoyed the hike and will do it again next time we are on VG.

Vermont Nature Trail

The Vermont Nature Trail takes you through lush rainforest with an amazing variety of tropical flora, beautiful scenery and a chance to see the famous St. Vincent Parrot in its natural habitat. Majestic cliffs reach for the sky, giving way to sweeping valleys. Ambient temperatures and abundant rainfall give rise to profusion in the growth of vegetation. The trail is in the picturesque Buccament valley within the St. Vincent Parrot Reserve and the more encompassing proposed Central Forest Reserve.

beautiful nature. easy to go alone dont pay for organized tour. you spend only few bucks per head. you can take a minivan to Vermont village from Kingstown, and walk from there. just ask the people on the street, they tell you where to search for the "bus terminal" its a half day activity. bring water and some snacks with you. it is a loop trail so it does not matter which direction you start. can be slippery after rain so hiking shoes or sandals recommended. otherwise is an easy walk not to demanding if you are in good physical condition. 3 hours to count approx. luckily we did not met many ppl on the way, somehow we managed to avoid the cruise crowed. I loved it. also to sit down in the shade and just listen. we could not see the famous parrots but still it was a great experience.

Blue Mountain Peak

The Blue Mountains in Jamaica is a hiker's and camper's paradise. You have to see it to believe it. The flowers and flora, the birds and animals. If you visit Jamaica, the Blue Mountains is a must see.

Reviewed By Kat_Selkirk - Iqaluit, Canada

Blue Mountain Peak was an awesome climb!! Gorgeous views throughout the climb of the mountains and coffee plantations. By close to the top we were in the clouds though so there was no hope of a view from the top. I was told that it is VERY rare to have a view from the top - like a once or twice per year occurrence. It means that there is a ton of moisture in the air near the Peak which ends up creating an “Elfin forest” which is as magical as it sounds. Worth the hike to see the forest at the Peak regardless of the lack of view! I did the sunrise climb.Left from Whitfield Hall at 2:30am with an amazing guide named Hopeton. If you can, find someone who knows him and request him as your guide!! He is so knowledgeable about the land, hiking, Jamaican politics, and the human condition. The 9 hour hike flies by in his company! Highly recommended.
