Latest Update: I am open for classes and market tours in Bologna as of August 2020! I have been running classes since 1999 and I plan to continue. I have always only taken very small groups and given the Covid -19 crisis, I guarantee you will only shop and cook with your family or travelling companions, not with people you don't know. For market tours and market shopping, we'll avoid narrow and crowded streets and still shop at some top purveyors for Bologna's renowned gastronomic products and its superb quality fresh produce. In my well-ventilated open space apartment, social distancing is easy and I will have ample supplies of medical masks and sanitising gels on hand for you. If you can't get (back) to beautiful Bologna just yet, then as you'll see from my Tripadvisor reviews, I am offering on line classes, both group demo classes and private classes tailored to your requests. Email me to enquire about the possibilities, I'll be waiting to hear from you. Carmelita

In October 2018, I had the pleasure of taking a cooking class with Valeria and Barbara, two wonderful ladies, passionate about their craft and equipped with a great sense of humour. The class itself is done in a very professional setting (large kitchen, big table easy to work on etc) but in a very relaxing ambiance. Their passion is contagious and you will not only acquire a skill but also learn to love making food from Emilia-Romagna. I highly recommend spending a few hours at the Salotto di Penelope and if time permits, take the market tour prior to the class. The tour provides you with very useful information on local products that you can use when you go back home. I am already planning my next visit....

Manaresi

Manaresi wine estate lies on the top of Bella Vista hill, 12 km south west from Bologna, in the heart of Colli Bolognesi DOCG wine district. The 11 hectares vineyards go round the estate centre at 270 degrees, facing all the plain from Bologna to Modena. The view rises above up to the Alps on crystal clear days. The winery has been named after Paolo Manaresi (1908-1991), prominent painter and etcher in the last century. The estate is personally run by Donatella Agostoni- Manaresi (Paolo Manaresi's grandaughter) and Fabio Bottonelli, by respecting the land and seeking the right balance. The soil is mainly clay with a little of gravel, with historical vocation for wine growing since the middle-age. The winery is furnished with up to date enological machinery and devices able to respect grapes. It lies underground on the lower level of an old Bolognese rural complex, whose 100 years old part has not been changed. All hand picked in small crates, grapes are very softly worked, all separate day by day, with a special care for quality, through low impact enological processes. Open at all times for direct sale. For guided tours and tastings, please write or call in advance (in this case a small fee is charged).

Make time to go here! Absolutely stunning location, fine wine and great company. We made friends with some others on our tour, Fabio was fantastic answering our questions and sharing his local knowledge. Me and my partner aren't big wine fans but we left with 3 bottles! Generous tasters too (recommend you don't drive here to fully experience this place) for 20 euro each. Cannot thank Fabio enough for this amazing experience, we'll be back.

We are two couples from the Elusive Grape in Deland FL, USA. This was our first time to this area. We had a wonderful guide, she took us on a tour of the winery, and then into the main building for a tasting. The wines were outstanding and would definitely suggest to our friends to call ahead for a visit, plan on 3 hours so as to have plenty of time to enjoy everything.
