The 10 Best Gear Rentals in Finger Lakes, Finger Lakes

January 21, 2022 Jacquiline Darosa

New York’s Finger Lakes region takes its name from 11 freshwater lakes placed like a handprint between Lake Ontario and the Pennsylvania border. Skiing, hiking and biking trails traverse the landscape; visitors can also indulge in various wine, cheese and beer trails. The area offers a culinary bounty, with an emphasis on farm-to-table cuisine. Rich history and culture are found throughout the region, with one attraction more inviting than the next.

This place is in the middle of a campground (so it's kind of hard to find), but totally worth renting your kayaks from. Great rental place, and the staff was super nice and accommodating. They also have paddle boards, the ones where you stand up on the board and row standing. I wanted to try one so I got out on the water, but then decided I would rather be in a kayak for an hour, than standing precariously. The guy working switched me to a kayak with no problem. The water goes from a small pond into the river, but is just isolated enough to be comfortable while going for a nice kayak ride.

Across the street from the Del Monte Hotel and the Erie Canal Trail, tis bike shop offered comfortable rentals by the hour. We enjoyed a great hour long ride on the Canal path which wasn't crowded, then the excellent staff advised me on equipment I had been looking for but not found at home. I noticed they sell e-bikes- I LOVE mine- but not sure if they rent. But the Canal path is so flat, you don't need an e-bike.

Rented a tandem kayak on the Wednesday after Labor Day having not planned ahead. We dropped in mid-day and were cheerfully greeted by a very pleasant, helpful young lady. The life-jackets were clearly cleaned and sanitized and our kayak was perfect. We were given some good pointers and were off for a lovely cruise. Thanks for being available in September mid-week and for an overall great experience!

I booked a tandem kayak for my 9 year old son and I. The whole experience was easy from beginning to end. The online booking was very simple. When we checked in to get the boat, they were ready for us. We were given our life jackets and were offered instruction on how to paddle our kayaks both individually and as a team. Anyone at any level could be successful and have fun taking out one of their kayaks. The boats and oars were all in good shape. I would definitely rent from them again.
