The owner and photographer Dave was great. Not only was he very professional, he was also knowledgeable about regiment specific uniforms, and period appropriate dress. He remained masked and compliant with all covid-19 regulations at all times. We decided to get both the wet plate tintype and digital photos, and he gave a discounted price for getting both. He also explained the preparation and developing process and we got to watch while our wet plate developed before our eyes. The scheduling was simple and able to be booked online. Walk-ins are welcome, but I suggest booking ahead of time as his appointments fill up fast. The location and parking are convenient. His costume and prop selection includes clothing accessories, furniture and weapons. Extra points for a selection of plus size clothing! We will be definitely be visiting again.

This place truly feels like you traveled back in time to an arcade from the 70s/80s (no flux capacitor required). Aside from a wide variety of old arcade games and pinball machines as far as the eye could see, they truly nailed the aesthetic and vibe of arcades from decades past. My only complaint is that I wasn’t able to play every game, but that only gives me another reason to come back. Will definitely be making more trips to this place. Truly one of the hidden gems in western PA.

I was so impressed with the warm, inviting atmosphere of Colony Cafe. Not only were the cats friendly, playful, and of course, adorable, but the staff members were also extremely kind and informative. We had such a nice time relaxing, playing with the fur babies, and watching the city from the stunning windows. The cafe has lots of places to sit and a large variety of toys to help interact with the cats. Since they are able to house so many, you'll find a variety of feline personalities from snuggly to playful and everything in between, making a visit perfect for a calming rest or some more active entertainment, depending on your mood. We found the cost to be well worth it for an hour and really appreciated the venue's mission to ease the burden of local shelters and help cats in need find forever homes. Colony cafe was sparkling clean, too. I have mild allergies and did not run into any issues. Even if you haven't been around cats much before, this would still be lots of fun. Perfect for newbies or long-term cat lovers! Also, if Licorice is there, give her a love for me! You might just find one of these babies leaves a pawprint on your heart. <3

LumberjAxes

LumberjAxes is Pittsburgh’s first competitive axe-throwing venue. Yes, competitive axe- throwing is a thing. It’s huge in Canada. At our rustic warehouse in Millvale, adults of all skill levels can try their hand at it. You and your friends, coworkers, or wedding party get a lane and take turns throwing at a target. It’s sort of like bowling, but without the silly shoes. And with way more axes.

We do an annual team retreat activity at work and so as 8 women we went to LumberjAxes. We span the gamut of ultra prissy to outdoorsy as a group and everyone of us had a blast and we have already planned a return trip but with our spouses too. The building is nondescript but there is plenty of local parking. The interior is hipster lumberjack as advertised. They set us up with a great coach: Zeus, who stayed with us the entire 2 hours and taught us how to throw, coached us in improving and kept score as we fought to a final winner. They also appear to serve food and drinks including adult beverages but we did not partake. There are clean restrooms and a drinking fountain. It was very much set up like a bowling alley so multiple lanes are all next to each other. We had an amazing time and can't wait to go back.

Simply put, it's like playing a game of darts, except with axes! At Bury The Hatchet you'll experience the thrill of launching an axe at a wooden target in a safe and fun environment. You and your best mates will spend two hours becoming intimate with a 1.5lb piece of whirling wood and metal as you learn, practice, and then finally square off toe-to-toe in a group tournament.
