The 10 Best Food & Drink in Auckland, North Island

June 20, 2021 Elouise Mccaul

The Māori call Auckland Tāmaki Makaurau — a maiden desired by 100 lovers, and a valuable territory fought over for centuries for its fertile land and natural harbors on the Pacific Ocean (to the east) and Tasman Sea (to the west). Today, it’s New Zealand’s largest city: A vibrant and diverse place where nature and urban life go hand-in- hand, with 48 volcanic cones, more than 50 islands, and 29,000 km of coastline and beaches just minutes away from the arts and shopping of the central city.

Babich Wines

Babich Wines is New Zealand’s most experienced family owned winery. We have been proud producers of fine New Zealand wines since 1916, when Croatian immigrant Josip Babich produced his first vintage. A century on, our family business has three generations of winemaking experience behind it, 13 vineyards in New Zealand’s finest wine regions, and a passion for winemaking as a way of life. We are a global export business (currently exporting to over 50 countries world-wide) but have never lost sight of the importance of family, farming and the winemaker’s craft. We make wines that are worth drinking; wines to be shared and enjoyed with friends and family.

Babich wines has become our "must visit" destination when we're in Auckland as it never disappoints. The wines are wonderful, the service and knowledge from Jake superb and the entire experience of tasting wine in a country atmosphere so close to the city cannot be beaten. The wines are not expensive either which is a bonus, so yes, we'll be back for more.

My husband and I had a stop-over at the Winery before dropping off our hire car at the airport and heading home via Dubai. I would fully recommend this lovely winery and restaurant in a great setting before heading off for the airport. It used up a good couple of hours and we had a really lovely meal before a very long flight.
