January 20, 2022 Trinity Boughner

With beaches, boating, and salmon fishing in Michigan City and Gary bordering Lake Michigan, there is more to Indiana than might appear at first glance. The agricultural heartland even has cross country skiing and snowmobiling to go with the Cornball Express. Southwest Indiana near Evansville is renowned for the well-preserved Native American Angel Mounds State Historic Site. The largest city and state capital is famous worldwide for its Indianapolis 500 race. Even locals living in the suburbs often overlook the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Eiteljorg Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions, the old Union Station museum cluster, and downtown Canal Walk, to name but a few landmarks. South Bend is synonymous with the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.

Forested Nashville’s art colony fame dates to the early 1900s when Impressionist Theodore Clement Steele overwintered in The House of the Singing Winds. It is now the T.C. Steele State Historic Site. View paintings and sculpture at the I.M. Pei-designed Indiana University Museum of Art. Attend an IU sports event or an opera, ballet, concert, or theater performance. Treat the family to The Little Nashville Opry or The Bill Monroe Bluegrass Park. For healing mineral springs, head south to Orange County, Indiana’s spa resort center.

Enjoy golf, fishing, boating, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice skating in the nation’s agricultural heartland. Monticello and Rensselaer are west of Logansport and north of Lafayette. Take the family on the Cornball Express and Hoosier Hurricane at the Indiana Beach Amusement Resort in Monticello. Play boardwalk carnival games, or let the kids loose on the go-carts. Pile the family into their vehicles for an old-fashioned movie experience at Monticello’s Lake Shore Drive-In. Indulge in a weekend dinner boat cruise to hot band sounds as the Madam Carroll plies Lake Freeman.

Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre

Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre has been serving up food, fun and fabulous live entertainment for everyone since 1973. Located in College Park, the theatre was part of a chain of dinner theatres built by Louisville contractor J. Scott Talbott. It was called "Beef" because of the delicious hand carved roast beef served before the performances, and "Boards" referring to the boards or stage of a theatre. Today, the Indianapolis location is privately owned and the sole remaining Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre, entertaining more than 150,000 theatergoers annually. Each season includes professional Broadway shows, plays and acclaimed children's theatre productions by our resident Pyramid Players. But a visit to Beef & Boards is more than just great theatre! We offer a tasty dinner buffet prepared by our in-house executive chef, plus a full-service bar and mouthwatering gourmet desserts. Be sure to stop by the Intermission gift shop for unique gift ideas, and ask about seeing more shows for less through our VIP membership program. Come see why each year more and more people discover the value and quality of Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre! Beef & Boards is a member of Actors' Equity Association, the only union for professional actors in legitimate theatre.

We had never been and wasn't sure what to expect. The dinner theater holds about 300 people I would imagine not a bad seat in the restaurant/ theater. A buffet dinner that was above Golden Corral but below the Ritz-Carlton the play was quite good A Christmas Story. Desserts were served during intermission and very good. The play was excellent and would highly recommend. Definitely somewhere I would go again

My husband and I decided to attend the Saturday Night Fever Sunday Matinee Performance last week. The play was wonderful with very talented performers. They also doubled as staff who served attendees and took care of everything else. Food was very good, hot and fresh, typical of buffet food. Fried chicken, carving board turkey, catfish, chicken Alfredo pasta, scalloped potatoes, corn, carrots, salad bar, etc. Desserts and alcoholic beverages are at an extra cost and served table side. All other drinks included in the price of admission. Reasonable prices. Check their website. We stayed overnight at a nearby hotel (many choices). This was a wonderful weekend for us. Check the other performances. We will be there!

The Mystery Cafe

Each show is about a fictitious group of people present for some reason or another to have dinner when murder interrupts their proceedings. The arriving audience is written into the story as this group of people. Two very funny performers play the main characters in the story while volunteers play the minor characters, which usually includes the murderer and their victim. Just sit back and enjoy the show or be in the show, your choice. Dinner is served a course at a time between the acts. Enjoy a great dinner from one of Indianapolis's finest restaurant The Library Restaurant & Pub. We occupy the banquet room for the fun of a murder mystery while downstairs the regular diners just have dinner without the fun. For those wanting to be a detective you can make your guess at the end of the third act. We will discover who the killer is in Act 4. After the show, we present a prize to the person whom best guessed who "dunnit." The second prize, the most coveted prize in Indianapolis, is the Hammy award which is presented to the best audience character in the show. Each performance is unique because the audience is directly and deeply involved. The magic lies in the interaction and unbridled creativity which occur in a room full of people who began the evening as strangers, but go home as friends.
