Lukomir is the highest and most isolated village in Bosnia. This hike is also the most popular hike in the country. And for a good reason. It offers all: amazing views, long walks, culture, history and legends. This is the most popular one day trip from Sarajevo. We start our tour on the southern slopes of Bjelašnica mountain, from medieval Umoljani village. We will make a short stop on ancient necropolis at Dolovi, and then continue towards Umoljani. We will then pass through Gradina - highland summer village, and go to Studeni Potok stream. On the way, we will visit 40-meter Peruće Waterfall before continuing to Lukomir. Our last stop - Lukomir village. It lives the same life for more than 600 years, Bosnia’s highest and most isolated mountain village. On the edge of the village you will be treated to a breathtaking view of Rakitnica Canyon. We will have traditional homemade lunch prepared by our hosts. Despite the lack of tourists during the pandemic, Enes and Nadir went out of their way to provide a great tour experience. Enes' witty and expressive personality was definitely the highlight of the tour. We had a blast walking through the fresh snow at the abandoned bobsled track and admiring the expansive view of Sarajevo from the abandoned restaurant on Mount Trebević. I appreciated that Enes shared some of his own personal experiences, like how he managed to track down the Swedish (?) boy that sent him gifts during the war and that he had the chance to personally meet and thank Bruce Dickinson, lead singer of Iron Maiden, for performing at Sarajevo during the siege. Enes has great taste in music and even sent me some songs related to the conflict in Sarajevo, which accompanied me during the rest of my time in the city and gave me a lot to reflect on. The sites we went to were all super fascinating. At the Tunnel of Hope, I got to hear the stories of individuals who braved their lives to bring in food and supplies during the Siege. Enes was very candid in his delivery of Sarajevo's history. I could tell it meant a lot to him. If anything, this tour was too short!

We had a guide who explained to us what happened in Sarajevo and how the residents and the soldiers of Sarajevo worked for 4 months, dug an underground tunnel between Sarajevo & the independent Bosnian area which allowed the residents & army to bring in food & arms into Sarajevo city so that they can defend themselves. Watch the video & walk into the tunnel to understand the grossness of war.
