Albert Ice House

What is better than the Albert Icehouse if you are seeking an authentic casual Hill Country outdoor experience underneath mammoth sized oak trees??? Probably the gorgeous drive down FM 1623 to get there! What a wonderful drive just to arrive at a "honkytonk/dancehall". The history alone is endearing but then the food truck, PIG PEN, serves up delicious choices. Hearty meatpacked bites. MY hubby and I both enjoyed enormous burgers. Delicious though I brought half of mind home, it was that large. They serve soda, beer, hard alcohol. Picnic tables. Very casual yet clean outdoor seating. Parking lot was packed. Everyone there seemed laid back and friendly. Definitely will find our way back for LIVE MUSIC.

The Lonesome Rose

As soon as you walk into this place, it takes you back in time with great country music and small dance floors. You can take the Rose and place it anywhere and it would do wonderful. The Texas BBQ food truck in the back has some of the neat brisket and hot sauce. Beer is cold bar staff is super friendly! Great local bands play though the evening. It was a great place to finish up after a wonderful San Antonio weekend. Great place to meet friends and have Texas BBQ and listen to country music, all on the St Mary’s strip.

This is a great place to listen to local music. If you are lucky enough to catch James McMurtry when he is in town to play a midnight show during the week, I highly suggest a visit. The beverages are cold and the service is friendly. The acoustics are good and comfortable area.

Arkey Blue's Silver Dollar Bar

Reviewed By nicolesheehan - Sandhurst, United Kingdom

This was recommended to us by a cowboy on the ranch we had been on but when we first arrived, we thought we'd made a mistake. You almost miss the entrance on Main Street and when you open it, you are met with stairs that lead down into the basement. it's a real spit and sawdust bar with a stage, some tables and a dark, dimly lit bar. Everyone turned and looked at us and we weren't sure if we shoul turn around and leave but we thought we'd be polite and have a beer first. Well what a blessing that we are polite! The lady serving was so friendly, the beer was so cheap and the dark, dimly lit bar was full of nik-naks and western memorabilia and there was a mock fireplace to the left making it look like you are in someones living room. We discovered it was jam night (Wednesday) and the bar lady told us the musicians all sitting around would start about 7.30pm. We started talking to them and she invited us to sit with them (she was sitting with them too between serviing). By the end of the night we were singing with them and my husband even borrowed one of the musicians guitars and had a little jam with them. We were so sad that we'd found this place on the last night of our holiday but we made the most of it and stayed until they closed about 1am!
