The 10 Best Classes & Workshops in Oregon Coast, Oregon Coast

February 28, 2022 Sachiko Swiger

The Southern Oregon coast is home to isolated beaches, rugged cliffs with breathtaking views of the Pacific and quaint seaside towns. If you stay in the Bay Area, go whale watching at Coos Bay or explore the region on a bike or a hike along the coastline. Antique shoppers will want to explore old town Bandon while golfers hit the links at the world-renowned Bandon Dunes golf course. And don’t forget to bring your fishing gear – you’ll want to cast for salmon and other Pacific Northwest fish at Gold Beach, one of the region’s top fishing spots.

The Central Oregon Coast is a great place for fishing, clamming, hiking, golfing and other outdoor activities. Take the kids and visit the Sea Lion Caves near Florence, the world’s largest. Head up to Newport for a view of the state’s second-tallest lighthouse and shopping in this seaside town popular with vacationers for the last century. Go fly a kite on the beach in Lincoln City, kite capital of the world.

The Northern Oregon Coast offers a relaxing way to enjoy the region. A stay in the scenic town of Astoria on the Washington border will allow you to explore the western edge of the Lewis and Clark trail, with views of the Columbia River and the Pacific. Walk the sandy beaches in Seaside and Cannon Beach and then grab saltwater taffy and other treats while shopping these seaside towns.

Stand Up Paddle

Stand Up Paddleboard tours and lessons located in Manzanita, serving the North Oregon Coast Stand Up Paddle Boarding aka SUP is one of the world's fastest growing recreation water sports. There is good reason for that. It is so user friendly that anyone can learn it and enjoy the sport in less than a day, essentially immediately! Once you try it, you will understand why. Basically you are standing on a giant surfboard and propelling yourself with a paddle. It is a sport designed for all in that it offers a fun, low impact water activity. SUP can be serene and peaceful in a calm, flat water way or you can take it to higher intensity levels like surfing or racing and make it more demanding. It's up to you but no matter how you do it, it is great for your body, your mind and your soul.

My daughter and her husband 'found' this place when they were exploring Lincoln City. In a couple of hours you can make your own masterpiece to take home. There were 6 of us in our party. 4 adults and a teenager and and 12 year old. Everyone enjoyed it immensely. Personally, I have the crafting and artistic talent of a 3 yr old. However, I was never made to feel untalented or lacking in any way. My project turned out much better than I expected. My granddaughter created 4 coasters of her own design. They turned out wonderful.

We made an appointment for two of our grandchildren to do some glass - and we brought the whole family (12 of us were there altogether) - While the older children were given a hands on class on how the create heavy glass paper weights all of our other children were able to watch through their big glass windows behind a seating area. We could not stay and wait for the glass to cool so they are shipping them to us, and my grandchildren can't wait to get home and see their final creations!!
