Great tour of Vilnius which we hadn't visited before. Only here for 24 hours and the bike tour was exactly the right thing to do. Franka's led us thru the city, both the old part but also the upcoming area's and other parts. His tour was nice, his sense of humor completed the package. The bikes were of good quality and also available for taller people. If you are in Vilnius and want to get to know the city, this is the way to go!

During this excursion we will walk in Vilnius Old Town, Castles territory, Uzupis- which is considered as bohemian district of the city, amber gallery. Vilnius Old Town is one of the largest surviving medieval old towns in Northern Europe. 25 churches, two castles, medieval streets, old campus of university from 16th century, city wall with the Gate of Dawn, medieval Jewish quarters which became ghettos during the World War II. Uzupis- district of artists is one of the most interesting places in the town. Community of artists declared so called free state from Lithuania 1997 April 1st. Now April 1st is the day of independence of Uzupis. We will explore the district with its galleries, artists, constitution and sculptures. It is possible to make a break and taste Lithuanian beer or food for additional price.

This tour was an optional tour which I hesitated to join, however, it was an interesting experience. The building looks fine from the outside but it houses terrible rooms within and in basement areas. You get to see and read about how many innocent people of Vilnius were tortured and killed by the Soviet KGB. There are rooms that show torture as well as cells with little doors to feed prisoners. It really makes you wonder how bizarre some people think and act. Certainly worth a guided tour.

I was lucky to be the only person taking this trip on that day. My Guide Jurata was very friendly, and insightful. We spent time at the Kaunas Rumsiskes, where we visited various old Lithuanian settlements. We also toured the Pazaislis monastry as well as Kaunas Old town and castle. She took time to present the cultural and historical background behind the settlements. That did help in appreciating Lithuanian history as well as Lithuanian society historically and in contemporary times. Personally, it was one of the most insightful tour I have ever experienced. For me it was an amazing experience.

My husband and I took a day trip with lovely Kamile to Druskininkai and Grutas Park with several stops along the way including an overlook which was originally thought to be the highest point in Lithuania, about 292 meters. However, according to updated research, the highest point is actually Aukstojas Hill at 293.84 meters where Kamile regaled us with the quest to identify the absolutely highest point in Lithuania. We stopped at Mendininkai Castle, a charming ruin with an array of torture instruments on display, and in the small village for my husband to photograph. On to the quiet spa town of Druskininkai with the dancing fountain, and finally to Grutas Park, home of the exiled statues of Soviet rogues. Kamile made this day so rewarding and delightful with her excellent knowledge of Lithuanian and European history, her excellent English, her informed observations, her thoughtfulness (special treats after lunch), excellent driving skills, and her awareness of what we were interested in, and not, and how she arranged the day to accommodate us. We couldn't have been more satisfied.

It was the best choice to come from Vilnius to Riga with visiting all great point between cities. We saw frightful Hill of Crosses and amazing Rundale Palace Museum. I guess we wouldn't have visited these countrysides places without support. The good bonus for us was interesting Riga trip where we visited main sightpoints and squares. It was really helpful because we stayed in Riga for next 2 days and could plan our routes without advice, based on previous information. Thank you Vadim for our fruitfull tour!

We had the amazing time and great experience during the flight with Hot Air Baloon above Trakai, the lakes! The pilot Vytautas Samarinas, is wonderful, very professional and has a great sence of humor ;)
