The 10 Best City Tours in Madrid, Community of Madrid

April 29, 2022 Kaleigh Reichenbach

So many of Madrid’s buildings look like castles, you’ll think you’ve stumbled into a fairytale. Even City Hall is astounding, with its white pinnacles and neo-Gothic features. A self-guided architecture tour can begin by the great bear statue in the central Puerta del Sol. Wander by the fanciful Royal Palace before absorbing the natural beauty of Retiro Park, then visit one of the city’s many museums. You could happily cap off each day by nibbling on forkfuls of paella while sipping Spanish rioja.

We had an amazing free walking tour today in Madrid with a guy called Gibson. He was super friendly, funny, and fluent in Spanish and English. We heard all about the city's history, the people who lived here, and the Spanish culture. In addition he gave us some tips for good restaurants/bars and other sightseeings. I would highly recommend a tour with Gibson to everyone who wants to laugh about Spanish royals anecdotes, be amazed by his comprehensive historical knowledge, and fell in love with this beautiful city. Enjoy.

Our private 2-hour tour of Museo de Prado with Govi was fantastic! She is incredibly knowledgeable about art and art history, and we learned a lot about the museum's top highlights. The pacing of the tour felt very relaxed and thoughtful—we had time to really study some of the artwork and ask questions. We would absolutely re-book with Govi if we planned to return to The Prado or any other art museum in the city.

Our tour guide was nice, but 30 minutes late. She did call me though. I think it was worth our time because she was historical and educational and took us around everywhere. But we did enjoy it overall. Again, she was 30 minutes EARLY finish time, even after being 30 minutes late! I could not believe it! I would try a different company on this fact alone.

Absolutely fantastic morning walking tour with Leila who was brilliant. She took us to places that we would never have found and was so knowledgeable, interesting and upbeat. We took in a number of historical quarters, ancient walls - some hidden (Muslim and Christian), amazing food markets and we even visited an ancient church where the nuns still bake biscuits... and bought a box! We were so lucky because it was the day of the Madrid Marathon and the roads were carless and there was a great atmosphere. Leila also followed up the experience with a summary of our itinerary and lots of additional recommendations for food and drink. Fantastic Leila - thank you!
