To see a medieval church still with its interior decoration in tact is so unusual it produces a real wow factor. It reminds us that was what the majority of churches were like before subsequent generations painted them over or demolished them. It’s a truly beautiful survivor that shouldn’t be missed

The St Nicolas church of Civray is a beautiful example of the romanesque art of Poitou. Its sculpted facade is worth a detour and you will be amazed by the colors of its interior paintings. A free brief document in English is available at the Tourist Office of Civray. An information board about the facade is situated at the corner of place Leclerc and an inside one explain the history of the church.

Delightful old church. Hidden gem with interesting facade and painting on the columns. Situated at one corner of the main square you can't miss it
