Land of Mermaids. Land of Orange and Lemon Groves. Land of Colors. This small city in Campania has earned a plethora of alluring names. Famed for its sea cliffs, the town's steep slopes look out over azure waters to Ischia, Capri and the Bay of Naples. The birthplace of Limoncello liqueur offers some good diving, great sea fishing, boat cruises and appetizing restaurants. Excellent hiking trails cross the peninsula. Rent a car or take a taxi if the steep streets look too intimidating.

This cathedral can be easily found whilst walking around the quaint town of Sorrento. The architecture is stunning and the painted ceiling is beautiful. The inlaid marquetry door is lovely. So much character and the atmosphere is so peaceful and tranquil. It really is a beautiful special place. There is no admission charge

A tiny church on the sea front in Sorrento's Marina Grande, being lovingly cleaned by a couple of elderly ladies when we visited. The church is relatively simply decorated compared to most Italian churches, but with the usual (to non-Catholic eyes) garish statues, and two large cases of silver votives - miniature depictions of parts of the anatomy which had been presumably cured after praying to St Anna.

I was surprised that this church was not already on Tripadvisor as most of the other important religious buildings are. Lovely Baroque facade, close to the cathedral in the middle of Sorrento. The artwork above the altar and on the ceiling are very impressive and a great find for any art lovers. The church dates back to 12th century with an interesting history of its uses and transformations through teh centurys.
