The 10 Best Bus Tours in Memphis, Tennessee (TN)

April 10, 2022 Janette Largent

Memphis is a pilgrimage for those wanting to visit the birthplace of the blues, of soul and of rock 'n' roll. On Beale Street, W.C. Handy put down on paper the first written blues music. Elvis, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash all recorded at the historic Sun Records, which is now a museum. Graceland, the second most-visited home in America, welcomes visitors from around the world who yearn for a peek into the life of "the King." Beyond the music, Tennessee's largest city also offers much more. It has more sunny days each year than Miami, and combines southern tradition and hospitality with modern amenities. You'll enjoy great dining (be sure to sample the barbecued ribs), art galleries and exciting nightlife.

Our tour guide Ms. Jackie deserves a standing ovation for the most entertaining yet informative tour we've ever been on. Ms. Jackie greeted us with open arms and pretty much hugged us with her enthusiasm, creativity, passion and knowledge the entire 2 1/2 to 3 hours. I became so mesmerized by the Memphis afro-american and civil rights history and taking photos in the van, that I actually slid off my seat! We all had a good laugh which helped with digesting the tragedies that have happened in history to innocent people because of racism. It was all the previous excellent reviews that made us want to take this tour and we were not disappointed. We are so happy that we made this choice since we only had one full day to spend in Memphis. We are so glad that Ms. Jackie pointed out The Four Way soul food restaurant where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, B.B. King and Aretha had all eaten at. We went back after the tour and OMG!! The best country fried steak ever!! Thank you Ms. Jackie for giving us a lasting memory. We want to go back!

This was a bucket list tour for sure. Saw so much, learned a lot of things we didn’t know about The King, and the best part was that the staff was following City/County/State/CDC guidance and no longer enforcing the mask non-sense. Would have loved to have seen the upstairs (private rooms), and really thought the prominent placement of Benjamin (Lisa Marie’s son) in the Meditation Garden was borderline disrespectful to her dad. Not saying he didn’t deserve a place with the grand parents, but his vault overshadows the rest.

The Cowboy Narator was very funny and very informative and made the tour a very enjoyable experience- he sang the streak and did Gomer and Goober and we laugh and learned and were very happy to have met him. The visit to the Ryman Auditorium was a chance to visit hallowed ground and take Cowboys advice how to see the Hall of fame- he knew how to get the most out of it. Thanks for the memories you made for my wife and I ????

This tour was so so bad. Went last night and it was solely the host. Presentation was awkward. She talked a lot and trailed off. I have no idea how this is more expensive than the bus tour. It is 2 hours of walking and listening to someone tell a really bad story. And the seance in the basement was so cringe too. I know it was one of those things that you have to give it a chance, but man. It was awful. Don’t waste your money. We almost walked off the tour and went back to the shop to ask if we could join the tour bus, but did not want to be rude.
