It was a great tour to the classical hotsots of Greece. Due to Corona on all visited sites were only a few tourists what I never had before. The hotels were at nice places in walking distance to the city center, so that we could enjoy Greece evening life easily. Our driver did a great job and had always interesting stories about ancient history and modern Greece to tell during our journey - thank you for this experience Yanis!

My guide Vasile met me at the Acropolis metro stop, we headed to the Acropolis, and I was the only person that had signed up for a tour that day so it was a solo tour. We stopped at the Acropolis, Temple of Hephaestus, Greek Agora, Lycabettus Hill, the glass running man, and the Olympic Stadium in my half day tour. 100% worth it, got some great photos and better memories, and would happily suggest them again.

This tour will take us to the major sites of the Peloponnese, both ancient and modern, from the Homeric city of Mycenae, to Epidauros, Palamidi Castle in Nafplio and the Corinth Canal. The kingdom of Mycenae was one of the first great centres of the Greek culture; settlement on this site dates back to the second millennium BC. According to Homer, Mycenae was the seat of Agamemnon, who led the Greeks against the Trojans to take back Helen, the wife of his brother Menelaus. You will see the Lion Gate, which formed the entrance to the royal court and palace. My son, daughter-in-law and I had booked a 14-day private tour of Athens, Crete, Santorini, Milos and Naxos with Private Tours Greece from May 1-14, 2020 and made a 30% down payment by credit card on 02/06/2020. All interactions with Private Tours Greece went smoothly and were professional and friendly. Then, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and my son's illness, on 03/13/2020, well ahead of the deadline for a fully-refundable cancellation, I asked Private Tours Greece to release all reservations it had made on our behalf, but to hold my deposit, in the hope that we might be able to reschedule our trip later in 2020 or in the spring of 2021. Private Tours Greece complied with my request and issued a credit voucher for the down payment I had made. As the pandemic continued to surge and Greece remained closed to visitors from the United States, on 4/17/2021, after essentially extending an interest-free loan to Private Tours Greece for over a year, I requested that my down payment be fully refunded and credited to the same credit card account to which it had been charged. Thereupon, Private Tours Greece staff claimed that the request for refund had been "forwarded" ... as it turned out later, to Alpha Bank. Nothing happened for a week. I then engaged in repeated e-mail exchanges with Private Tours Greece staff, only to be subjected to a stream of equivocations, obfuscations of the facts, and invalid excuses, including a claim that Private Tours Greece was doing me a favor by agreeing to a refund because the Greek government had allegedly given it the option to hold my funds indefinitely. I then contacted the general manager of the company, who sent me what purported to be a Greek language request to Alpha Bank (that I was unable to read) to issue the refund, along with further invalid excuses, never responding to my complaint that Private Tours Greece was in breach of its contractual obligation to issue a full refund of my down payment, not to mention doing the honorable thing, i.e., issue an immediate refund from an account he controlled directly, rather than blaming Alpha Bank for the delay by claiming that it "required" 10-15 "working" days to complete the request. Even that outlandishly ridiculous period has now expired! A complaint I submitted to Alpha Bank has received no response to date. It has now been nearly a full month since my refund request of 4/17/2021, and I may have to initiate legal action against Private Tours Greece ... with all the complexities and additional outlays and delays that would involve ... in order to reclaim my funds. The lesson to be learned here is that Private Tours Greece cannot be counted upon to honor its promises and contractual commitments. If there is any chance at all that you may have to cancel your trip, STAY AWAY!

Meteora is one of the most impressive and popular monuments in Greece. It is not only the Monasteries that are strikingly hanging on the rocks that you will see and admire. It is more the magic of nature and what it can create. It is the view of that landscape that gives you the feeling, the magic, the awe and the admiration. It is one of those landscapes that fills your soul and makes you feel beautiful, love beyond ordinary limits! Thermopylae is also certainly the most popular battle site in ancient Greece. The message that this battle has given to humanity has been unique, and you will surely feel it when you visit this place. We will talk a lot in this long journey, about myths and history and explain everything. It is not a simple journey, it is an experience, one that we always remember.

This is a wonderful experience that I would recommend to anyone who has an interest in Greek history and/or mythology. Pan collected us from right outside our apartment which was really handy and welcomed us with traditional Greek bread with sesame seeds from the bakery. There was also plenty of water being chilled for us in a cooler. The car was comfortable and clean and had good air conditioning which was very welcome on such a hot day. From the beginning, Pan was really friendly and talkative and we had some really interesting discussions before we even got to our first site. En route to Delphi, we passed the site where the Battle of Marathon took place and learned about the background and story surrounding it. We did not stop here which was fine as it was never planned anyway. Also en route, we passed the ancient city of Thebes and learned about the story of Oedipus. Our first stop was just before Delphi at a viewpoint which was a wonderful place overlooking a beautiful valley. There were portable toilets here. Then we went on to Delphi which was a truly spectacular experience. Pan was very well versed in the history of the area and helped us visualise what the place looked like in its prime. The views from Delphi were beautiful and the ruins left behind were fascinating to see. The cost of entry is not included in the price of this experience and Pan does not enter the site with you, but there are plenty of information boards to explain each attraction. The ticket cost 10 or 12 euros and also included entry into the museum which houses all of the recovered statues and artefacts from Delphi. After this stop (which probably lasted about 2 hours or so) Pan took us to an incredible restaurant for lunch which stunning views over a valley and out to sea. The staff were great and the food was delicious as well as the local ‘Delphi beer’. The cost of lunch is not included in this experience but it is very reasonably priced. Thereafter, we continued our journey to the home village of Pan in the mountains of Parnassus. It is a very charming little village and has two ancient ruined temples on the outskirts. One to Apollo and one to Artemis. There is also a lovely stream next to these ruins with a really interesting story which Pan explains well. After this stop, we made our way to Thermopylae, the site of the ancient battle where 300 Spartans, Thespians and local soldiers held off a huge army of Persians for a short time. We happened to be there on the anniversary of this battle from 2,500 years ago which made it all the more special. Pan again explained the story and took us to exactly where the battle took place. There are monuments there to remember the soldiers and even to this day, flowers and wreaths are left there! After this we drove home and in total the trip lasted 12 hours. There is a lot of time spent in the car but this is a necessity and is balanced out by the amazing sites we got to see and the great conversations we had with Pan. It is a trip we could never manage ourselves and to have the local and expert knowledge of Pan made it really special. Definitely one of the biggest highlights of our trip to Athens!!

We first met John when my niece Hélène and I visited Athens in September 2013 and based on the various excellent reviews on his services, asked him to organize our transfers from/to airport and private tours to Sounion, Athens and Corinth, which he did perfectly, including renting a wheelchair for me (as I’m a person with restricted mobility) and arranging for my trip up to the Acropolis via the archeologists’ lift, which enabled me to visit the Parthenon again. So when we returned to Greece 7 years later in Sept./Oct. 2020, this time to Agi Theodori, a small village some 60 km from Athens, we immediately contacted John again to take care of the wheelchair rental, transfers to/from our villa and a private tour to Old Corinth. John himself waited for us at the Venizelos airport, as smiling and full of life as ever, though we were a few hours late due to a serious technical problem on our Zurich/Athens flights. Being already retained by a big football star, he arranged the tour in Corinth with another delightful and helpful driver, Alexander and again we had a lovely day. On the transfer back to the airport we again stopped at the Pende Phi, a fantastic Greek family restaurant he had introduced us to back in 2013 and we had a marvelous lunch before flying back. John is really a jack of all trades and is able to arrange a lot of things for you, point things you would have missed otherwise, give you tips of what to do/where to eat and always ready to help and solve problems. So we certainly hope we’ll meet again when we’ll visit his beautiful country again. Thank you for everything, John! Sylvie & Hélène, 74000 Annecy /France

We don’t know for sure what actually they were doing at the mysteries, but we know that they had the answer to the universal question: "what happens after death". In Eleusis archaeological site and museum, we will see the path to underworld that Persephone took and all the places the myth of “Grab of Persephone” describe. We will wonder and maybe discover why great people such as Plato, Aristotle, Sophocles, Pindar and many others were initiated into them. • Eleusis is a place that makes you feel more hopeful and your shoulders lighter. You will realize the similarity of the ancient rituals the new religions like Christianity or Buddhism. • What about swimming with a mask over a sunken city? • This experience is not a walk in monuments, with monologues like teaching. It’s soul rebirth! • If you are interesting in history, philosophy, soul rebirth, holistic medicine and you also love sun and sea food, you are going to love it!
