We are a small family business where you can find beautiful and unique wood bolws, which are made by the owner, the work area is in the same place so we extend the invitation to all our customers to visit the workshop and observe the process and for sure our garden. We also have jewelry that is made also by the owner and her daughter, some made from recycled paper, seeds, and more. We hope to see you soon!

Don’t miss this place if you can help it! This is the place where the guy will show you how he turns bowls from wood. He also will show off his fantastic garden which has sugar cane, a macadamia tree, and coffee plants amongst numerous others. He cut some cane for our family to try. He also has a bird feeder where we saw a Toucanette, and a Euphonia bird. He also let us try a lime right off the tree, and showed us his pineapple plant, plantain and banana trees. The gift shop features his woodwork, and the prices are the most reasonable there. You can find his work (probably his work) in gift shops, but this place has the best variety and prices. Best was when he let my husband try helping him turn a bowl on the lathe. The owner is a really kind man. We gave him money for generously sharing his time with us.

Recently I was in Monteverde and needed to work out some sore muscles from all the hiking and exploring I had done. Dra. Karmen Phillips has her massage therapy facility in an excellent location on the main highway. She provided and thorough and welcomed massage. After many years of experience as physical therapist, she knew what was needed to help improve my movement. She was very friendly and hospitaable as well offering me tea at end of session! Great Costa Rican hospitality.

Transportes Varela Monteverde Costa Rica

Reviewed By bea877 - Seaside, United States

Mr. Varela picked us up from San Jose airport and drove us to Monteverde and all around the area. He's friendly and kind and a very safe driver. We went to a variety of sites in and around Monteverde and he was always on time to pick us up from the hotel and from our tourist spots. His prices seem to be better than the going rate, quite reasonable. He arrived early to pick us up, help with luggage and drove us back to San Jose airport when we were ready to go. I highly recommend him.

He was full of good knowledge about the area and gave great recommendations on what to do! It was really easy to contact him and every trip and activity I booked was organised really well with no hassle. It’s great to use and support a local family run business. I would recommend using Faro Travel while in the area!

Hidden Valley Permaculture Farm

Reviewed By patrickmD3116MM - Toronto, Canada

The Hidden Valley Permaculture Farm is located at the Monteverde Inn and is fully integrated with the Escondido Preserve. This tour provides some wonderful insights into practical techniques for achieving sustainability. It is interesting, educational and very encouraging to see how they are addressing the challenge of maintaining a comfortable hotel environment while reducing the impact on the natural environment. Obviously there's much more to the story than can be described in a short review and I can only say that we found the afternoon fascinating. I believe they may be considering some educational programs and, based on this tour, we'd certainly consider making a special trip if they do!!

We grew up at the shade of the great ficus and enjoys the songs of the free birds and the mischievous monkeys, cultivate life and food to help us survive in an economy in which money has value, but we have the certain that it is not all !!! We are a local family and our job is to share the life philosophy that we got as a heritage, communion with the great diversity in which we have the opportunity of walking up, working on the conservation of the forest and offering visitors the unforgettable experience of nature image, walking through our different trails you will encounter a transition forest a bridge between The Cloud Forest and the Dry Forest; with an abundance of endemic and fruit bearing trees in the area that make it suitable birds watching, wildlife observation and wide array flora that characterizes the area. You will be surprised by two beautiful waterfalls, panoramic views, coffee and banana plantations grown in harmony with the rich biodiversity of 48 hectares of protected area. In our quest to conserve the forest we are part of the Biological Corridor Bellbird, planting and giving maintenance to about 1,000 trees per year, this association's project to reforest the corridor where they nest and eat these beautiful birds. It doesn’t come up when you look for cooking classes in the area but I’m glad I stumbled upon it anyways! Christopher, whose love of coffee is epic and made us wish we did his coffee tour, was a friendly face as we walked through making three Costa Rican dishes. Everything was well-prepared but also hands on and delicious. I’ve brought back home some of the ingredients so that I can make it for myself again, and soon! It was a warm and welcoming atmosphere, made intimate because we were the only students of the day. Highly recommended!!
