Sant Climent de Pal

Open from Mai to October. Pal is one of the best-preserved rural villages in Andorra and has beenpart of a special traditional architecture protection plan since 1997.The church, the site's most outstanding structure, dates from the late11th to early 12th centuries, with modern additions. The nave is rectangular and conserves a large part of the Romanesque walls. Thepresent apse is square (17th-18th centuries) and replaces an originalRomanesque structure. The Lombard-style belfry has three double-windowed floors, the topone featuring twin double windows, unique in Andorra. Inside thereis a granite font, a Romanesque statue of Our Lady of the Remedies(13th century), two processional polychrome wood crosses and analtarpiece dedicated to Pope Saint Clement, the church's patron saint (1709).Visitors can also go to the Andorra Romanesque Interpretation Centreto see how the Romanesque evolved in the Andorran valleys.

Sant Cristofol d'Anyos Church

Reviewed By FoxDylan - Adelaide, Australia

This little church is incredibly beautiful, it is small & you cannot enter, however it is definitely worth visiting, I love driving up the curvy road to sit on either the slate stairs or the little bench in the front & admire the beautiful view. You can see the mountains & the town of La Massana & it’s great for photos. The only downside to this gorgeous place is that some dog owners cannot comprehend why they should pick up their dogs poop & as it is a popular place to walk your dog (I take my 2 up there). It’s so disappointing because their is even free dog poop bags provided. However, don’t be too discouraged, just watch where you step. I once was lucky enough to meet a gentleman up there who was exercising his pet eagle, it was seriously cool to watch a 3yr old eagle flying free & then happily returning to her human, sadly she was injured when she was young & was unable to return to the wild. If you love old architecture, you should visit, it can be a lovely spot to relax as well or have a picnic.

Museu Casa Rull

Casa Rull was one of the most important houses in La Massana. Themale and female heirs to property and to wealth, labourers and maids, all lived under its roof. The main body of the building is from the 17th century, with later alterations to meet the changing needs of the family. In the 19th century,a fire damaged the attic. At present, it has a ground floor, two upper floors and an attic. The tour shows visitors the Andorra of the 19th and early 20th centuries, showing the Perich family's way of life, when harvesting theland and raising cattle comprised the economic basis of rural life inAndorra.

Farga Rossell

The Rossell Forge was built between 1842 and 1846 and, except fora short period of inactivity, remained open until 1876. This makes it one of the last active forges in Andorra and a living example of the country's pre-industrial heritage. The Rossell Forge has now become an Interpretation Centre aboutiron. Using audiovisuals and a drop hammer demonstration, it explains the process of transforming iron ore into ingots and their subsequent sale to Catalan markets. The tools used to work with this material arealso on show: bellows, furnace, etc.

Tristaina Lake Trail

Reviewed By T-SGlobetrotters - Preston, United Kingdom

We had hoped to drive directly to the car park closest to the southern most Tristaina lake, Estany Primer to complete a walk around all three lakes only to find a barrier shutting off the road immediately after the Ordino-Arcalis ski station and before the multi hairpin bends. There was someone on duty here allowing some vehicles through presumably those with accomodation further up the road but no one else was allowed to pass. We were merely advised the road was ‘closed’ but we strongly suspect this was no more than a ploy to force anyone wanting to visit the lakes for the day to pay €13 to take the cable car from the ski station to a base station 30 minutes walk from Estany Primer. Certainly our views of the road from the cable car did not indicate any problems and there were vehicles parked at the ski lift base station. The €13 price is for the return trip and also includes a second return chair lift ride up to a higher seperate point with magnificent views of the valley on the other side of the headland from the lakes. This is virtually on the France-Andorra border. The price is inclusive, you can't just buy the cable car ride for the lakes walk. On balance we were grateful the managers of the park made this decision because it enhanced our enjoyment of the day and is something we would not ordinarily have done. The combined cable car and chair lift journey takes around 30 minutes and it actually good value for the length of journey. Views are spectacular. In terms of the walk itself, the path to the first lake on leaving the cable car is on a well marked path. It is a steady climb on a fairly uneven gravel path with a little scrambling over rocks towards the end of the first part of the walk, so we would recommend walking shoes with some toe protection. Also because the walking is at altitude the route is a little tiring and frequent stops are needed. Beyond this we made our way to the second lake Estany del Min before going on to the third lake Estany del MesAmunt. We just walked along the valley floor although there is an optional higher route giving panoramic views of the lakes. We were quite happy with our walk, there are lovely views across all three lakes, plenty of wild flowers, babbling steams linking the lakes and even in the height of summer a bright white ice block maybe 100m across which you can walk on if you scramble over some rocks. The walk from the first to third lake and back takes around 2 hours. After getting back to the first lake you merely retrace your steps down to the base station for the cable car journey back. It is a much easier walk going down. Last cable car back to the ski station is 5.30pm. Overall this was a most enjoyable day. Despite being the height of summer, numbers of people walking were small and often it felt like we had the entire area to ourselves.

Vallnord Pal-Arinsal

Reviewed By welshbl0ke - Buckley, United Kingdom

First time in Arinsal and highly recommended. Slopes were well maintained, lift passes very reasonably priced, queue times next to nothing, prices for lunch reasonable. I can't fault the pistes and lifts. My only gripe was how slow the hire shop was but that's a different story. Temperatures when we were there meant the snow was spring like. I hadn't expected to see 16 degrees C at the end of December. But the whole resort was open and we had a great time. I can't comment on the ski/snowboard schools, suffice to say the instructors appeared very good from what I could see. Would I return? Yes.
