Sealers Cove

Reviewed By ALW3197 - Melbourne, Australia

My first overnight hike experience. First part of hike from carpark (we caught shuttle bus from overnight hikers carpark) was wide, easy to navigate and the incline was fairly gentle. 3 kms or so into the journey you reach a beautiful grassed area. Rest here if you have time. Other side down the hill the track is very narrow. Lots of rocks. Some steep steps. It is spectacular. I recommend having walking poles. There is a water supply over this side so if you have invested in a Lifestraw you can fill up here. We carried in about 2.4 litres each but we were also staying overnight at Sealers Cove and we were not 100% sure on the water supply. Having said that there is a water pipe at the campsite safe if through a Lifestraw or boiled. Once you hit the boardwalk it is pleasant flat walking with stunning scenery. I think it starts about 2 kms before you hit the beach. We arrived as the tide was coming in at the tidal creek at Sealers and all had to strip our pants / shoes off to get across. I am 5 ft 3 and it was up to very top of my thighs. If you come at low tide it is about 20 cms out of the berm of the beach. Which was the depth when we left the next morning. So much fun to be in cool (and safe) water after the trek in. The legs appreciated it. From there a walk up the hill to the campground. Lots of cosy spots. Drop toilet. Plentiful water supply for boiling / Lifestraw. Low tables with logs around them for sitting. Which I found slightly annoying. Hike in reverse is much more challenging as it is very steep getting up to the grassed area 6 kms up. So just take your time and rest where you can. Anyway, I highly recommend this hike. Keep your packs light as possible and be smart. As this was my first experience I was lucky to be with my husband who is a very prepared camper. Everything we carried was light. We had dehydrated food and protein bars. A wet bag to take our rubbish home. Light tent. Light mattresses. Weather changes alot so please be prepared for everything. We had pouring rain, sunshine, wind and cool over 24 hours.

Gippsland Lakes

Australia's largest and most beautiful inland waterways, the Gippsland Lakes are a network of lakes, marshes and lagoons covering over 600 square kilometres. The Lakes are separated from the ocean by coastal dunes known as Ninety Mile Beach. Bird and marine life thrive here, with lake dolphins and pelicans frequenting many locations.

The Gippsland Lakes are a series of lakes ... the largest of these lakes are Lake King, Lake Wellington and Lake Victoria. They cover an area of about 350 square kilometres. These lakes are collectively fed by the Avon, Thomson, Latrobe, Mitchell, Nicholson and Tambo rivers. These form the largest network of inland waterways in Australia making them a great place to visit for a variety of reasons... whether you enjoy fishing, water sports, swimming, walking or simply relaxing... This area of Gippsland has everything covered. There are also approximately 400 indigenous flora species and 300 native fauna species. Three plants, two of them being orchid species, are listed as endangered. There are also Southern Right whales and Humpback whales using the Lake Entrance area ... and the area is home to at least 50 species of dolphins which includes the Burrunan dolphin. It's a really wonderful place to visit all year round.

Cowwarr Weir

Reviewed By gmishonamish - Victoria, Australia

I have need going to the weir for years and years and it is always spectacular! Usually warmed up by the sun in summer, it is a pleasant place for a picnic! Toilets are currently under renovation (there are porta potties tho). Just make sure you take your RUBBISH HOME WITH YOU!! As there are no bins here, and to pick up after your dog... Usually very clean, but occasionally someone doesn't abide by the clear sign on the way in.

Glenmaggie Lake

Reviewed By jasonsadvise - Traralgon, Australia

I have lived in Gippsland all my life never spent a lot of time at glenmaggie lake. I have recently started coming here as everywhere is getting too busy for our dogs as they are not great with big groups. Plenty of room to have your own space and lots of different coves to access. Great for water sports and fishing. Speed boat competition is held here annually as well. Amenities and accommodation available also, short distance from the victoria high country for 4wd and camping
