Royston Hall Guesthouse

Royston Hall Guesthouse - circa 1897 - is a stately Victorian Manor House that is deemed Superior and listed with the Historical Council. We have two resident Great Danes and a little girl sausage dog who will welcome you effusively and add to the homeliness of Royston Hall. Nestling in its own small Private Nature Reserve it overlooks the Umzimkulu Estuary with the Indian Ocean twinkling in the near distance. This romantic property lends itself to quiet rest. We offer 7 spacious double rooms en suite and one tiny single en suite for the single traveler who is just passing through. Regret no children. This YOUR time! Our breakfasts are well-liked and prepared according to your preference. We serve beautiful dinners by appointment on arrival. Picnic baskets for couples may be arranged too. We can arrange for a Sundowner cruise up and down the Umimkulu River - or in the morning, of course. Its just more fun with a drink and snacks you may provide for yourselves. You could do river fishing from the 1km frontage we own or beach fishing at the famous Sand Spit where the whales have been seen to come and birth their calves. Deep-Sea fishing/or Scuba Diving can be arranged by prior notice.

Unique stay in a Historic Landmark

I imagined something in the line of Bridgerton or Downtown Abbey when I booked this accommodation and I wasn't disappointed. The guesthouse offers you a snapshot in time. The rooms are beautifully kept and clean with splendid fixtures like the chandeliers and mosaic bathroom tiles. We had a great balcony view of the river in Suite 5 for our morning coffee. The grounds had two very nice trails that served as good morning exercise before a well presented breakfast. Lungi, Harris, Lily and Ria made our stay very memorable

Beautiful and well run establishment. Andre are so helpful and cooks a mean breakfast. Convenient for exploring the Oribi Gorge. Top rooms have excellent views of the sea.

Great service and welcome by Olivia but i wasn't impressed with the condition of the room, the towels and the room smelled dusty - the extra blanket in the cupboard was dusty and towels were grey with bleached stains. The breakfast was okay.

Pleasant enough

Taking into account that this review is post COVID-19 lockdown with this type of establishment having suffered greatly, the offering was not bad. Pool was dirty and amenities minimal (breakfast offering for example quite basic). Our room was robbed while we were sleeping (they stole a Samsung Galaxy watch and took my handbag but dumped it on the property), and the water and electricity were out for an hour or so on 2 mornings. However, the friendly, energetic dog, Duke, was fun as he likes accompanying guests onto the beach. The place is clean and comfortable. The beach is absolutely beautiful and not as crowded as the main beaches. Lot of food and shopping places nearby as well.

Excellent B&B, great service & views

Reviewed By Devinsky

We spent 2 nights at the guest house, visiting for a function. I must say that we were very impressed with the large rooms and great views. The breakfast was farm fresh, delicious. We received personalised service! We were very late on arrival given a delayed flight, but Stephan welcome us with a smile and was very helpful. Although a great stay, minor improvements like a hair dryer in the rooms would make it even better (we were wet in the rain & needed to dry our hair before a function)

Lovely

Reviewed By Emma H

We stayed here in August as a last minute stop. The staff were really accommodating, lovely breakfast. Rooms were lovely and clean. Unfortunately my son was poorly during the night and was sick everywhere in the room, the family who own the lodge couldn't have been any better, they were so kind to us even though I was extremely embarrassed! I can't them enough for that. They were very informative about what to do in the area, which helped us massively. I recommend this lodge to anyone looking for accommodation in the area.

Wednesdays there is a darts competition at Bulldogs. Me and my son stayed at Venture Inn for an evening. Neat hotel/inn that has seen better days, but great value for money and friendly staff. Rooms are comfortable with necessary amenities and they have adequate parking. For a quick stopover I would recommend.
