Great Location but Disappointing Room

Reviewed By Lightning21

Located in Mendocino, the Alegria has a great location for walking about the town and strolling to the beach. Our room had a nice view of the river and beach. However, the room itself was disappointing. The bathroom in our room is very small and the floor (and toilet) has a slight slope. The sink is located in the main part of the bedroom. Ants patrolled the bathroom floor. The bathroom has a semi-obscured glass door that limits privacy. The building is in need of maintenance. The windows would not remain open. Debris was in the gutters. The parking is a bit tight. On the plus side the bed was comfortable, the staff was friendly, and breakfast was brought to our room each morning. Internet speed was alright with 16.4 Mbps upload and download speeds, with a 74ms latency when I checked. The hotel staff leaves at 6:00 p.m. each day.

Seagull Inn Bed and Breakfast

Welcome to Mendocino CA and Seagull Inn Bed and Breakfast, one of the original B&B Inns on the scenic Northern California Coast. The house was built in 1878. A giant Holly tree shades the front porch. The private garden has several secluded sitting areas. Meticulously maintained, the inn and its grounds are very much a part of Mendocino's charm. All bed and breakfast lodging guest rooms have private baths and some have views of the ocean.

Solid Lodgings, Great Location

Reviewed By Elisabeth P

The Seagull Inn gave us a great place to perch for a couple day exploration of Mendocino. Just steps from the town and from the great headland trail with access to the beach or just views. We loved sitting on the porch. We chose the seagull for the location and relatively good price for the area, and it delivered. The room itself was fine but lacked some comfort. We like to read and relax in the room and had some trouble with that. The two chairs in the room were uncomfortable and one was broken. The bed had no headboard so retreating to bed to read was uncomfortable…the window sill dug into one’s back. As stated elsewhere the bathroom is quite small…but it’s a historic building so no complaints about that. The breakfast was a real disappointment, a bad but huge muffin accompanied a little cup of fruit and a bizarre tablespoon of yogurt. There was no way to make coffee in the room so the breakfast arrival time of 8-9 was really late. We quickly gave up on breakfast and and began getting coffee and food at some nice establishments in town. I think seagull would do as well to skip breakfast service and offer coffee and (better) muffins in the office area for those who want them. All in all I might stay again for location and price, but I wasn’t wowed.

We were greeted with friendliness and professionalism even in the middle of someone backing into the building. We are not simply told where the room was, but escorted and shown the room…. And what a room. Absolutely beautiful. The facility is done very nicely. A perfect place to unwind Karen, thank you so much for your hospitality. Sorry I missed you the following morning. Your charm and personality made the stay, while amazing on its own, even better. Don’t change a thing. Next time we will all share a bottle of wine. Mark B

Quiet seaside motel

Yes, the motel is old but it’s clean and within walking distance to most of the shops, restaurants, markets and beach. The only complaint I have, we selected a queen size bed and I swear it was a full or double size. If you look at pictures of the actual bed there is a huge lump that runs down the middl, At firstI thought someone forgot to leave or there was a dead body hiding in there., no it was just a huge lump. I had a hard time sleeping because I felt like I was going to roll off the bed.

Bait and switch

We are writing in the hope that you might have some interest in our feedback regarding our two day stay at the Gualala Country Inn in Gualala CA on November 7-9 th 2021 room 202. Starting with the good news which is always my preference. Your two colleagues, who made the phone reservation Ms. Isela and Ms. Mani were delightful, and helpful during our initial call. In addition, it was wonderful that we could have our little pup Bishop join us on my wife’s birthday celebration for a reasonable per night fee. Lastly, the ocean view was very pleasant and as described on your website. Our concerns outlined below will deal with the conditions of room 202 and the overall property. Room 202 was “reasonably” clean, however, there was a musty odor that lingered throughout our stay. We regrettable found the answer to the odor - Mold. I was informed that the rooms were freshly remodeled, and the website did not reflect the current conditions of the rooms. We found just the opposite: Room 202 felt generally dated and furnishings were worn. The ocean view was nice as stated above, but the curtains were dingy and beyond any freshness or cleanliness. One of the curtain rods used to open the curtain was missing. The heating element was described as gas but was actually an electric heating element attached to the wall. In our opinion, a “newly” remodeled room does not have haphazardly mounted baseboards just tacked over the original baseboards and holes in the walls near the window, which added to the overall poor conditions of the room. Your website suggested the furnishing was of “tasteful decor”, we did not find that to be true. The chairs were badly worn, TV counters of poor quality, the bedding was dingy and sheets nearly threadbare, and pillows thin and worn. The telephone in room 202 did not have a dial tone even after checking the connection and we mentioned this to your staff. The headboards which are Velcroed to the wall were pulled apart easily. Mold spores are found in the bathroom windows, which can cause health issues and a very musty unpleasant smell. The room as promised did have a microwave/frig that functioned but was very dated. Generally, the Inn’s structure needs work, like the stairs which felt a bit dangerous during the wet weather. My wife went to the ice maker and was shocked at how dirty the pump was and looked like there was mold as well. As you know there are well over 100 rentals in Gualala and neighboring communities in Mendocino. The website shows how AAA rates hotels, which states the hotel must first meet 27 basic requirements, covering comfort, cleanliness, and safety. Overall we strongly feel the nightly fee was not reflective of the poor conditions of room 202, and we are confused by your Inn’s rating. We wanted to share this feedback with you and your staff before we add it to other social media and give you an opportunity to make this right. Regards, Ray Brown/Stacie Bond

Great Hotel

I loved the hotel but not the restaurant. Our room was lovely and very clean. The staff was amazing and so nice. Reily and Jasper thank you. The front desk u are all amazing. So yes we had a great time.We were in a larger room and had a great view of the harbor. We went to sleep hearing the seals .So nice.OK, now the food. We tried three times each time the food was bland and not great. The prices are like NYC which is crazy.By Fort Bragg standards it was good but we did not have one good meal here in town. The fish is not great anywhere,if you want the best you have to line up and order at a window and be in an open seated area. Here you have a nice cozy restaurant but not well-cooked food. Wish there was a great restaurant in this town but there is not.Yes I am spoilt living in Napa Valley but if you charge those prices you should produce amazing food.It is sad there is no good food here and I am talking the whole town.We had a great stay at this hotel and will be back and maybe the food will get better, they have great seafood in the harbour everyday.
