Relaxation - Luxury with a side of Wilderness

La Sirena with hosts Mike and Lilian was the most relaxing family vacation we have had in a long time. Luxury rooms right by the pool, waking up to birds chirping, only steps from the South Pacific warm ocean waters with legit 6-10 foot waves. No need to wait for another set, there are constant powerful waves out and plenty of waves near the beach for the kids to play. Back drop of mountains is amazing.Folks are sleeping on Costa Rica, mix of 1800's Wild Wild West with 2022 Las Vegas with the beauty beyond compare. The hosts took excellent care of us, every accommodation is thought out. Fishing is a 30 minute boat ride to Mahi Mahi, dolphins jumping. Rainy season was great with a little cloud cover, rained during the day one time, all the rain is blown inland during the day and rains late at night. Best hosts you could ask for with advantage of English and Spanish speaking, Highly recommend!

Great stay at Los Ranchos

Reviewed By Chlorine

We stayed at the Los Ranchos hotel from March 3rd to the 13th. What a hidden gem! You are very close to both the main drag and the beach, but you’d never know it. It’s like a little oasis in the middle of everything. Rooms. Our room was extremely spacious, and had a table with 4 chairs, a dresser, 2 night tables, a kitchen counter and sink, TV, a small fridge and a microwave. We also had 2 queen size beds. We saw a room that had three beds in it, so great choice for a family or friend group. I believe the lower rooms had more of a full kitchen. The bathroom had a large shower. As with a lot of smaller places I’ve stayed at, the hot water can be a little temperamental, but I always managed a shower. Each room has some type of outdoor space, in the form of a balcony or patio. A lovely place to eat your breakfast. Air conditioning worked extremely well. Grounds. There is a lovely pool in the middle of all the rooms. A rock waterfall on one end, and pretty lights at night. It’s open from 8-10. Let me say, I have never been in a cleaner outdoor pool in my life. It looks like it was recently retiled, and there is a gentleman working constantly all day to keep the pool and the grounds in tip top shape. You know sometimes, when you’ve sat in a chair in a warm place, and get that whiff of stale sweat? Not here! He scrubs them all once a week with a brush and soapy water, and wipes them all down daily. There are 2 outdoor showers, with foot taps as well. Very handy to wash off the very sticky beach sand. There’s a nice variety of tropical plantings on the grounds, which definitely adds to the oasis feeling. There is also a BBQ available for use, although we saw no one use it during the time we were there. There are also bikes you can rent for a nominal fee. Other observations. The cleanliness of this place is outstanding. The rooms and the grounds are impeccably kept. You know how in some hotels you’re not sure if they ever change the bedspread? They definitely do here, we even got ours changed halfway through our stay. And our sheets were changed possible daily, and at least every couple of days. Breakfast is included, so every morning you get Gallo Pinto (rice and beans), a chunk of baguette and eggs, (usually scrambled, but you could request them another way if you wanted) José, the lovely gentleman who delivered our breakfast every day, surprised us with a beautiful omelet one morning. There is usually a different add on every day - ham and cheese, fried plantains, sliced tomato, sliced sausages in bbq sauce. A little tip to make your breakfast even more enjoyable…pick up some green salsa and some ketchup at the grocery store, it kicks it up a notch. We also bought butter and jam for our bread. There is also coffee and juice available each morning as well. I don’t like hot coffee, but I do enjoy iced coffee. So each day, I’d make a sweetened coffee, leave it in the fridge, and the next day add milk, also picked up at the grocery store, for a tasty treat. The people that work here are fantastic. We noticed a few days into our stay that our drain was leaking onto the floor (we had thought we were just being extra messy), and mentioned it to the owner? manager? Eric. He had it fixed pretty much immediately. Another time, we pointed out that a lightbulb had burned out on our stairwell. Same thing, fixed immediately. Wifi was strong and steady. I was able to use my iPad outside around the pool no problem. We had an amazing stay here, and would not hesitate to recommend it it to anyone. Happy to answer any further questions you might have about the place.

Quiet choice with Great rooms

I booked a small kitchnette for our first visit and we were quite pleased. The street leading to the hotel is a bit sketchy but reasonably well illumintaed even at night. The hotel has good security and do not keep you long waiting at the gate. There is room for several cars if you are driving. Our room was spacious, clean, and equipped with full sized fridge, and stove. The A/C worked very well and the bathroom had ample hot water. The pool was clean and inviting and provided a nice respite after a hot day of travelling. The rececptionist was quite efficient and even booked us bus tickets the following morning. The hotel is a about 10 minute walk from downtown but the streets are illuminated. There is an ATM on the way to downtown. Overall, a pleasant little hotel well away from the noise of downtown Jaco

Quaint Guest House

Reviewed By H8840EDdeborahr

Although we had a bit of trouble finding La Perlita, it was well worth it the time. It is off a side road in Jaco, right alongside the river. Pierrete greeted us warmly at the gate ( although there isn’t a large sign, once you see the sign at the locked gate, look for the buzzer to number 5. Once you ring the buzzer, a warm greeting awaits your arrival.) and explained how to park the car and access the rooms. The guest house is cozy, and neat. A fan keeps the hot air moving, and the screened windows keep the bugs out. La Perlita is only a five minute walk to the ch and shopping. The pool is refreshing and clean. It offers a quiet retreat from the heat and crowds of the beach. Marc and Pierrette offer a petite dejeuner (breakfast). I’d recommend the French version which includes fresh made crepés and jams, as well as fresh fruit and delicious Costa Rician coffee. It’s is a beautiful retreat a bit off the beaten path, and definitely worth the trip!

Clean, Near the Beach, Small, Odd Rooms

Reviewed By michael n

I needed a last minute hotel and found this one on Orbitz. The strange part was though the reservation was made with Orbitz, I had to pay the hotel in cash. Beware of that. The room had a big bed, I think a king, but the room was barely bigger than that. The entrance was through the sliding glass door, kind of looking at the beach. There was a large bathroom and shower without a shower door or curtain. The pool was very odd, it was essentially for the abandoned looking property next door with the access was through a breached brick/rock wall. That being said the pool wasn't bad. The room was clean, bed comfortable and it felt safe enough. There was someone watching the front gate and at some point in the night the gate was closed. If you had a vehicle it could go behind the wall. For someplace to stay the night this property fit the bill, I was out with friends until late at night. But you wouldn't want to spend much time in the room.
