The 10 Best Beaches in Barcelona, Catalonia

October 20, 2021 Nobuko Falco

Barcelona feels a bit surreal – appropriate, since Salvador Dali spent time here and Spanish Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí designed several of the city’s buildings. Stepping into Gaudí’s Church of the Sacred Family is a bit like falling through the looking glass - a journey that you can continue with a visit to Park Güell. Sip sangria at a sidewalk café in Las Ramblas while watching flamboyant street performers, then create your own moveable feast by floating from tapas bar to tapas bar.

Plaja de Sant Sebastian

We had a little time our last evening, and decided to take a stroll at the Platja de Sant Sebastiá. It was clean, not too crowded, and just right for us to toss our shoes and go for a little barefoot stroll in the shallow surf. It was a great way to end our days in Barcelona.

I actually prefer this beach than Barceloneta. It’s much calmer and full of small sand rather than rocks.

There are signs and maps along the promenade so when you see the sign for this beach take the short path to the beach and the rest is up to you. A sandy cove at one end, a narrow slightly shingle bit in the middle and a wider sandy area at the North East end.
