The 10 Best Bars & Clubs in Great Barrier Reef, Queensland

June 21, 2021 Margarita Chappel

The world's largest coral reef system, the Great Barrier Reef stretches almost 1500 miles into the Pacific from the tip of Queensland. Designated a Marine Park by the Australian government and a World Heritage Area by UNESCO, the reef is home to an extraordinary abundance of species and habitats. Snorkeling, diving and fishing are rightly popular along the reef, nowhere more so than on the Whitsunday Islands, where the silica sands and aqua waters of the Coral Sea create the perfect beach escape.

This is the bar I want to give my money to whenever I go out: The cocktails taste delicious, the bartenders know their cocktails, the customer service is friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere is chilled, and the music always hits the mark. Side note: The owner of the bar is a top-notch bloke. Thank you for setting up this delightful bar and keeping it running through this covid season of economic hardship. I appreciate it. P.S. Go on a Wednesday night and you will catch their $10 classic cocktail menu. Cocktails on a budget? Yes, please!

We were not intending to have lunch there, just a cold drink. We decided to have their $10.00 lunch: Steak, Chips & coleslaw (choice of Normal Gravy, Dianne Sauce or Pepper Gravy). Cost was $38.50 for a pint of Northern and a Piccalo of wine. Staff very friendly and helpful. We would recommend this pub. We will be back, for sure.

Lightbox Espresso Wine Bar

Reviewed By 521MaryB521 - Seattle, United States

Gladstone is a privileged town and even more privileged to have the Lightbox espresso wine bar! Observing all restrictions and safety concerns one is able to relax in a beautiful environment, Food and wine of highest quality and superb service. I was reluctant to write this review with selfish motives. Numbers are still restricted but the large open areas do cater for a good number of people. I am coming back tomorrow for breakfast!

OK All ... you won't find a friendlier, more atmospheric and cute little bar than The Conservatory Bar in Cairns City ... and you definitely won't find a more knowledgeable owner/bar person on the subject of all things of an alcoholic nature that Ross! It's always a pleasure to saunter into this place and be greeted like an old friend by Ross and (sometimes) his missus. He'll always remember your preferences and will frequently suggest something that may be a little better or 'different' (I've got to trust him explicitly :-) ). If you have more than just a champagne taste Ross will find and sell you a glass (or bottle if your bank balance permits) of the rarest and most beautiful wines you'll find anywhere. Sadly my credit cards have a limit ... but I enjoy Ross's magical G'n'T's on a most regular basis. The atmosphere resembles a good friends stately sitting room ... red leather Chesterfield sofas and an older World charm ... but ... it ain't that 'large' so get there early and grab the best bit of red leather you can find. If that fails there's still plenty of room outside in the fresh air courtyard. Oh yeah ... ask Ross about his Wine Tasting evenings ... where he shares his wealth of knowledge on all things 'grape' ;-) ... Just do it ...

Sunset Bar

Escape the Queensland sun and enjoy beach breezes and a cool ice cream treat at the Sunset Bar at the Jetty or meet new friends on a guided canoe trip to Dundonga Creek. The Jetty is the resort’s main marine hub and the one-stop shop to hire marine gear or indulge in a chat with friendly staff. Pre-order order a cheese or prawn platter with the Kingfisher Bay Resort reception team before 4pm on the day required or pick up a packet of chips or an ice-cream and take in the view. Fish feed and dart amongst the jetty piles, dingoes lope along the beach and as the sun dips, the Sunset Bar at the Jetty is perfect to perch for great views of a perfect Kingfisher Bay sunset. Open Monday to Sunday 9:30am to Post Sunset.

A short walk from the main complex and overlooking the beach and jetty is this wonderful relaxing bar. Sunsets the world over are to be enjoyed but, experiencing a magnificent sunset while enjoying your favourite beverage (and maybe a prawn platter of big delicious prawns) is sheer pleasure. Our favourite place on Fraser Island!!

A super quirky, moody cocktail bar that you’d never imagine to find in PD! We came here after a great dinner at Melaleuca and had some gorgeous salted caramel and apple crumble martinis, and an Incredible Hulk cocktail (think melted choc mint icecream!). I loved that this was something COMPLETELY different in a beach town of cafes dominated with nautical aesthetics. Great service and mixing abilities from the staff.
