Though I must admit I love strolling the streets of Winter Park, a detour to visit the delightful Charles Hosmer Morse Museum is a delightful way to spend a couple of hours surrounded by exquisite Tiffany creations [and is also a nice air conditioned respite].

There are magical gardens, sculptures & a walking tour behind the library. We walked to the right, picked up a walking tour and wandered into the gardens. This non-profits mission is to promote art, literature, music and drama offering a calendar full of diverse concerts, films, exhibits, speakers, workshops & classes. I've tried to join and am on the waiting list. The Gioconda & Joseph King Library is a grand Mediterranean building with a mural depicting art, literature, music & drama painter by Albert Herter in 1939. The two bronze panthers guard the entrance to the library. The Botanical Garden is lush and tropical with lots of benches, sculptures, water features & plants to admire. The Moonlight, Chinese, Jungle, Palm & Madonna Gardens were impressive; a perfect location for a wedding or outdoor event. We walked through beautiful pergolas, past the two Peacock Monuments on our way into the Pannill Pavillion filled with fountains, lush foliage and the four seasons sculptures by Philip Haas. He painted four large fiberglass head sculptures to represent each season, inspired by Mannerist Giuseppe Arcimboldo. I sat on a bench between life size sculptures of Roosevelt & Churchill in Lawrence Holofcener's The Allies in bronze & wood.

My wife and I have been here several times since they opened a few years ago. This time most everything displayed looked different. I asked one of the guides and he stated, "They change out most of the glass work very 3-4 months". It seems always to be fresh with new displays of glass from the artist imaginations. What I like about this museum, it shows the American Glass Movement from it's Infancy to the Present. My wife and I have collected glass art pieces from around the world, have seen numerous glass museums around the world, and this one is in the Top 3 in the world.

The Ringling

The Ringling is located in Sarasota, Florida and preserves the legacy of John and Mable Ringling. It is home to the State Art Museum of Florida, the historic Ca' d'Zan Mansion, Bayfront Gardens, the Art Library, two Circus Museums, and the Historic Asolo Theater. The grounds and gardens are free to visit, and the Museum of Art offers free admission on Mondays.

Reviewed By jbwhitehouse - Dallas, United States

The Circus Museum is closed for renovations as are an art gallery. The new Kotter-Koville Glass Museum is at the entrance to Ringling and is free to view. It has beautiful and diverse glass pieces; worth a visit. Admission--free with NARM, MARP, and ROAM memberships--provides admission to the fantastic Tibbals Learning Center, the grounds around Ca'd'Zen, and the truly outstanding and extensive art museum. Additional fees are charged to view Ca'd'Zen for the first floor or other floors. It used to be free to do a self-guiding of first floor and a fairly reasonable charge for two other floors. Now there is a high price, which is understandable when considering the very costly upkeep of the property. Still such high prices exclude this family. Ringling is for all ages and necessitates hours to enjoy.

The Morses were collectors that started with Daddy-longlegs, starting a friendship with artist. Connie, our docent whisked a huge group of us through the magnificent museum giving us a lot of background about the founders, artist, building , Art & it’s symbolism. Steve answered all of our architectural questions about this 36 million dollar bunker that can withstand a cat 5 hurricane. The enigma is 1200 different glass plane structures around the concrete. Twelve builders were brought from Mexico with a chef for 22 months to build. Fascinating that the building represents the body of a man and woman on her back. From different perspectives the building looks different. The center spiral staircase represents a DNA spiral. The architecture & garden tours were wonderful too, too much to see! Fabulous app that gave us a self guided tour & lots of info about the art. The gift shop was exceptional, so many beautiful Daliesque jewelry, clothing, books, art ... Cafe was lovely as well, a lot to choose from since we didn’t want to leave. We enjoyed our salad and sandwich outside in the garden.

Norton Museum of Art

The Norton Museum of Art was founded in 1941 by Ralph Hubbard Norton (1875-1953) and his wife Elizabeth Calhoun Norton (1881-1947). The Museum’s permanent collection now consists of more than 7,600 works in five curatorial departments: European, American, Chinese, Contemporary and Photography. The Museum’s expansion that opened February 9, 2019 was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Lord Norman Foster of the architectural firm Foster + Partners. It is the most comprehensive in the institution’s 78-year history. Dramatic changes include boldly re-orienting the main entrance to South Dixie Highway , which restores the symmetrical east-west campus axis created in 1941 by original architect Marion Sims Wyeth. The building and accompanying lush sculpture garden, enable the Norton to exhibit more art, present more programs, and provide a growing community an up-to-date center for the public to enjoy art and culture.
