Chateau de Parentignat

The chateau of Parentignat was built between 1707 and 1720 by Anne-Francois de Lastic, Marquess of Sieujac and Captain of a Royal infantry regiment, on the foundations of an old fortress. The chateau remains in the family to this day and is the object of an extensive restoration programme. The landscaped gardens can be viewed from the terrace at the back of the chateau, which is lined with heirloom roses and fantastic orange trees in their original 18th century pots. The gaiety of this green and pleasant "natural" garden provides a stark contrast with the formal geometry of the lawns in the front courtyard which have been restored recently, along with the avenue of lime trees leading to the chateau's entrance. The chateau has always been renowned for being so sumptuously appointed. Its furniture and art collections have always been exceptional. A Geocaching session in the park of the castle is a must for a family attraction !

Le Doyenne

The "Brioude Chapter" gradually became the only temporal lord of the city, directly dependent on the King of France and the pope. He had at his head an abbot, a dean, a provost; in the course of time the function of abbot disappears, but continue the titles and functions of "Dean" and "Provost". The building dedicated to the Dean still exists today in its medieval structure with a significant part of its decor. In 1956 the ceiling with painted beams is classified as a Historic Monument. In July 2018, after major rehabilitation and development work, a project of 600 m² exhibition halls was created, allowing the development of an offer in Modern and Contemporary Art that does not exist in France. Auvergne. An exceptional exhibition was proposed in the summer of 2018, "CHAGALL, from the rooster to the donkey" was scenographed by the curator Jean-Louis PRAT. 40,000 visitors have crossed the doors of the Doyenne

Musee d'Art Roger Quilliot

I was pleasantly surprised by the museum, it’s so well done! The exhibits are wonderful and provide a overview of art throughout France’s history. The building is also beautiful inside and creatively remodeled. The museum is also free for students making it a must see when in Clermont-Ferrand!
