The 10 Best Art Galleries in Tromso, Northern Norway

October 15, 2021 Brain Ambrose

The fjords and mountain ranges of Tromso are simply magical. Here, the northern lights sparkle across the same navy blue sky that's illuminated by the midnight sun. You'll be spellbound by Tromso's enchanting fishing villages, fragrant botanical gardens and crystalline waterfalls. Music is a major part of the Tromso culture, particularly techno and electronic music, which adds some thumping thunder to the city once a year during the annual Insomnia Festival.

Local factory of hand blown glass, shop and small café. Located in Southern Kvaloya

Nearly drove past...so look out for the signs. Easy going cafe with some great artwork for sale. Coffee was rich and fresh. The owner told us he did the best waffles in the world. As it turns out he’s right. He also does Air BnB. I’d love to go back and discuss 1970’s rock with the owner, have a drink and just watch the world go by. Highly recommended if you are on your way past.

I like it. Not too big, not too small. Interesting art and the staff are always helpful and very easy to talk with. They remembered me from my last visit and it was so relaxing talking about art for a couple of minutes. I also got a tip for a future exhibition and that was a big plus:)

We saw the reviews and knew we had to stop. What a wonderful experience. The staff who are all artisans themselves took time showing us around and explaining their craft. They have many beautiful things on hand but they also take custom orders. As a group we designed a bowl to fit in our home. We received it today in the United States all the way from Norway and were blown away. It is just stunning, far more than what we expected and now we have a special one of a kind gift from Norway. Be sure to make a visit to Blast when you are in town. You will be amazed.Truly a special place.

Tromso Center for Contemporary Art

Tromsø Kunstforening is a premiere arena for contemporary art in the circumpolar north, and the oldest art institution in Northern Norway. Established in 1924, it has changed from being a volunteer run organisation, to a professionally run institution. Our established tradition emphasizes a program of newer and experimental contemporary art where we aim to create reflection and discussion about art. Regularly we organize events relating to our exhibitions to create an arena for increasing public knowledge of contemporary art.

Popped in whilst passing. Very welcoming and informative, free entry, even given free coffee/tea after we’d walked around the exhibit. Definitely pop in to see what’s on.
