St. Sophia Cathedral

One of the oldest stone buildings in Russia, this magnificent cathedral is considered to be the symbol of the city, and was once the hiding place for Novgorod's treasury.

Reviewed By AlbertSalichs - Manresa, Spain

St. Sophia Cathedral is the religious building most important in Kremlin of Veliky Novgorod and provably in all Novgorod, a city located almost 200km to the South-East from Saint Petersburg. It is a very important historical city in Russia, so the Kremlin is wonderful. Inside the Kremlin, there are the Cathedral and other buildings. The Cathedral is a typical religious orthodox building: a white facade and some domes on too, the most important golden and the other ones blue. Also, in the inner hall of the cathedral, you can see fantastic frescos: the full building is wonderful. (see also Novgorod Kremlin)

Kazan Kremlin

The historic fortress dating back to the 16th to 19th centuries.

Reviewed By 30vladimirr - Moscow, Russia

Kazan Kremlin, an amazing historical place, on the banks of the Volga River. the walls and towers of the Kremlin are very well preserved. The Kremlin itself in architecture is very similar to the Pskov Kremlin. Also white towers and walls, also round towers. I liked the building very much. It was in winter, a cold wind was blowing from the river, it was -23 Celsius, snow was falling, so we moved from museum to museum. On the territory of the Kremlin, there is a museum of the history of this break off and the emergence of the Kazan Khanate in the beginning, and so on. I recommend to visit those who are fond of history, like me).

The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra

The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra “In the land of Moscow and all over the world there is no other monastery equal to this one…” - Archdeacon Paul of Aleppa

Reviewed By israroz - Ra'anana, Israel

One of the highlights of our trip to Russia, (my wife’s and myself, her sister, and my brother in law) was without any doubt our trip to the Golden Ring and especially to The Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra church in the city of Sergiev Posad which is considered to be one of the most important religious centers in Russia and a pilgrimage site especially to believers in Orthodox Christianity. Since we arrived with our “private” guide who had “pre-arranged” personal guidance for us, so we “got” a young guide from the church staff who took us under his wings and led us to all the interesting places (and they are many) throughout the site. Explained to us the history of the place from its inception to the present day. Starting from the entrance area with the arched door and the amazing frescoes on the walls and ceiling and later all the spectacular sites (and they are many). In conclusion a most amazing place NOT 2 B MISSED.

Datsan Rinpoche Bagsha

Reviewed By SiberianVoyager - New York City, United States

Thanks to our wonderful guide Natalia Gomboeva and Metropol'-Ekspress agency for making our visit to this beautiful Tibetan Datsan unforgettable. Everything about the place was interesting - the location, offering panoramic views of the city and surrounding mountains, the architecture - rather new-age but keeping traditional values, manipulate grounds with gorgeous flowers and trees, stunning Buddha statue inside, but most importantly, it was our guide’s knowledge of history, culture and Buddist religion that she kindly shared with us. If you are interested in finding a truly knowledge and gracious guide - ask the Metropol-express agency for Natalia Gomboeva!
