He was a friend who spoke three languages. I forgot his name but the bartender was great. The beach has a wonderful ambiance. I loved it a lot. Next time I will come with my wife.

Reviewed By golfersatxREVIEW SECRETS AKUMAL JUNE 2022 A summary: We have been to Secrets Akumal once a few years ago. In our eyes this very nice property has lost some of its luster and could use a refreshing. Those who visit SA (Secrets Akumal) frequently may not notice some of these areas that could use a redo. Our travel agent did a masterful job in securing our trip from our airline to AMSTAR. We waited no more than 10 minutes to be in a private transfer and on our way. SATURDAY On our arrival, the ceiling fan in our room had just 2 speeds, very fast and off. Our concierge was able to get an electrician to work on it but parts were not available. The following day parts were located and prompt repair. There was a Mexican buffet scheduled around the pool. We were there early and enjoyed a better bottle of wine to get us a table for two up front to enjoy the show. The appetizers were very good. We went for more food but heavy rain started to fall ruining the outdoor Fiesta party. We felt sorry for the staff. They put a great effort into the setup and food only to have it washed out. Monday we had reserved and paid for the use of a Bali bed. Nice location away from much of the noise. It was disappointing that it was saturated from the rain and multiple layers of beach towels were not enough to get the most enjoyment from it. We cancelled subsequent reservations for the beds. Yes it rained a lot but the beds could be better protected for the $75 charge. Monday night we dined at El Patio. The menu was comprised of Yucatecan and Oaxacan dishes. They were very good. Tuesday we ate at Bordeaux. We selected a bottle of wine from the alternate wine list. It was dutifully decanted to bring out full flavors. The chef asked us if we would like him to prepare us a special menu. That he had a special of surf and turf of lamb and salmon. We specifically asked for each to be prepared medium-rare. When the dishes arrived they were so well done we sent them back and asked for just a double order of the escargot for each of us which was nicely done. We never went back to Bordeaux. Wednesday we went to the spa for a scheduled massage. When we were in the relaxation room the entire spa lost power. We waited 15 minutes for someone to explain what was going on. They confirmed a power outage and wanted to proceed with our massage. We explained that we did not want a massage in room without air conditioning and that we would reschedule. On our way back to our room, we talked to two other concierges from other buildings. They stated that Akumal was having issues with their electrical supply and that the resort was now suffering from occasional blackouts due to overbuilding of new resorts. That evening we ate at Portofino. It was so good that we dined there again later in the week. Paulina again presented the wine we chose. Thursday the room was warm and again contacted the concierge. She explained that the system was fresh air based and that the temperature inside and out will be the same. That is not how air conditioning works. We told her we did not agree with her and wanted the unit checked out again while we were at breakfast. When we returned the room was even warmer. Maintenance was going to check the thermostat and replaced it. When we got back to our room, we had no hot water and the room was still warm again. The power outage apparently affected the water supply and the chiller system. They were able to get both back on line. Thursday evening we ate an Oceana. Seafood was very nicely done but it took 3 hours to receive 3 courses of food. They might have had a large party they weren’t ready for. Friday we had an extended period with no rain. It rained every day for some period of time but SA has no control over the weather. Snorkeling time. For some unexplained reason the turtles have migrated to a different area. It was disappointing that they were not close in like they were on our last visit but SA has no control the wild creatures. That night we ate at Portofino again and had another bottle of wine with a great meal. Saturday we went to eat at Sea Side. Because of the Mexican festival we ate at Oceana. We experienced another outstanding meal. And again it was a repeat of a downpour which sent the staff into over drive and shutting down the Fiesta festival buffet again. The preparations were absolutely wonderful. We decided to go for expresso and cappuccino at COCO. We arrived to see local artisans set up for shopping and they were also getting rained out. We went to get a drink to let the rain ease up. I went to the lobby to try to find an umbrella. While in the lobby a drop of rain hit my head and found out they need repairs to the thatched roof. Sunday we had to get up at O’dark thirty for our trip home. AMSTAR arrived at 6:55 for our 7:00 reservation for our return to the airport. Flawless trip arrangements by our TA.

We could not say more positive things about the resort, the food, and the amazing staff we met. We celebrated our honeymoon as first timers of this resort and everything was a wonderful experience. We have stayed at numerous all inclusive resorts in Mexico and this resort is by far our favorite and we're already planning our next trip back. All the staff was exceptional but a few that really stood out to us were; Isabel, Andres and Alejandro with Entertainment, Carlos the bell hop, and Anibal a waiter at Basmati. Each one of them exceeded our expectations and are the absolute best!

Reviewed By charcharblinksOur experience at the resort was very enjoyable. We especially loved the food and service at Azul, one of the restaurants on the resort. Service and food were impeccable. We tried every restaurant on the resort at least once, but our favorite was Azul. Any time that they were open, that's where we went except when we weren't on the resort. Shout out to the hostess Iris, always very pleasant and the waiters that waited on us Señors Martin, Juan Carlos and everyone! Of course, hats off to the Chef (amazing food!)! While we didn't drink alcoholic beverages that much during the trip, what we had were really tasty! They definitely have really good bartenders! This all-inclusive resort has a lot of perks, and we had a very positive experience here. The other thing that we really enjoyed and have amazing things to say about are their entertainment team (or as they call them SPORTS TEAM!); they had great energy, and were amazing at hyping up the events and games. We loved playing volleyball with them. The resort can definitely count them as a great addition to their team! The only thing we didn't like was the ventilation and the air circulation in our room. When we hang our towels up, they didn't quite dry, and the bedsheets sometimes felt damp. The fan would also clunk really loud after it's done doing its thing. Other than this, we had an awesome experience! Everyone was really helpful when we'd practice our broken Spanish, when we had questions or needed some help with something! Overall, definitely recommend the resort! Eat at restaurant Azul, and participate in the entertainment events with their "Sports Team"!

Reviewed By osa12017Hands down to Hector Raga Sagrero. He was taking care of us all, party of 10, by pool area. He was so attentive and knew our room numbers and our regular drinks. We had our regular spot by pool and he waited on us with so much care. In return, we tipped him well because he worked so hard in making sure we enjoyed our stay.

We got caught in the rain and were greeted at the door with towels to dry off which we were extremely grateful for. Reyes was our server and he was more than amazing! He got us a fruity margarita while we waited for a gorgeous cabana that was on the beach. The food & drinks were delicious. We were celebrating my friends 21st birthday and she was surprised with a pineapple with sprinklers and tequila shots that we ordered! It was so much fun! The atmosphere is outstanding and the beach was beautiful. It was just the right temperature to have a great time. Hector was the manager on duty and he checked in with us to make sure we everything was going well (which is was). I definitely would recommend coming here! I will be back again!!!

WHAT A COME BACK LIVE AQUA!

The love for this resort and it's employees runs deep. A few years ago, maybe around 2019 things started to change at LA, from what we were accustomed to persay. Pre pandemic and pre remodel we started to notice little things here and there that hadn't been an issue before. During remodel and pandemic we definitely noticed a difference but shrugged it off due to all the things that were against the current to make things go accordingly for the resort and staff. I can assure you. LA was not the only resort who suffered. We wanted to return to see our "family" and see the changes. However, after last year's trip in May 2021 I was going to book at Punta Cana LA. Our friends wanted to give LA another try now that restrictions were lifting and things were getting back to normal. Here's where the good part comes in........ From check in to check out EVERYTHING HAS IMPROVED FOR THE BETTER..... The old LA is making a come back and I couldn't be happier about it. It's not just the greetings and hugs from Aqua Club, it's the entire experience. I've been an Aqua Lover for 10 years and I hope I am for another 10 years. If they keep up with this, I most definitely will be. Attention to detail is back like the old days. Deivid Martinez, hands down is one of the BEST. I have had the pleasure of booking with him for many years and LA would not run as well without this man. Trust me! The open food in Aqua club is fully back, YAY!!! The hugs are back, double YAY!!! Now, onto some very important people who make LA so special. Aqua club: Rossy Santana, Juan Daniel, Eladio, Graciel, Aldo, Guiermo for nightly drinks. Mar is slso an amazing addition to LA Aqua Club. She's beautiful too! Pool, waitstaff: Jonathan Chaire, Daniel Sierra, Katia (love this new firecracker), Andres Mesas, David Gomez, Manuel, Aminael just to name a few of the most amazing people on the planet... Jonathan has been managing here since we started coming I believe. He's a master at his job. He gives great hugs too! Ha! Andres, David and Aminael are some of the hardest working people I know. From sun up to sundown you will not got hungry or thirsty. Our dearest David Gomez, BIG SHOUT OUT TO HIM.... I had forgotten my trusty beer tumbler, and here comes David to the rescue. Not only did he bring me HIS Yeti tumbler, he also brought me his little yeti cooler. This guy is one of our favorites and put me first before his own needs. We were just gonna try to go across to mall and buy one, but there are not any to be found. He saved my week for sure. Dinners at LA do not dissapoint... MB, Chef Wilian Canul is your man... Best cuisine by far along side Rohibi, "Roy" who kills it at service. My favorite restaurant besides MB would be Hidden Garden. YUMMMMM!!! I miss it so bad. Now, The new butler service with suites. HOLY COW!! It has always said "butlers included" but this is a newer spin on it. Hands down, ROSSY AND ELADIO are AMAZING!!! Every need was met and most times without even asking. Rossy, not only is she stunning but she is incredible at her new role. Her sweet demeanor and personality mixed with a hint of sass. We are not super needy people, but I have no fear that she strives to make every guest 100% satisfied. Hence my statement of the old LA is making a comeback. ***SILENT DISCO*** If you haven't tried it, you need to. Don't miss out. Best fun I've had in a long time. Egos was the place to be. After all these years we normally end our nights stopping off at Aqua Club and heading to the room. Ha! Party poopers. More like exhausted, but I will forever make time for Egos from here on out. What a way to spend our 22nd wedding anniversary. LA for the WIN!! I know I am probably forgetting something, I hope I'm not. There were so many wonderful memories made this trip. Thank you LA and all the amazing staff that go above and beyond every single day. We love you! The Carter's!
