Atkins Seafood is a family owned and operated seafood market/restaurant. We have also owned and operated our own fleet of boats out of Galveston, Texas since 2004. This gives us the unique opportunity to offer some of the freshest seafood available. We sp

At Atkins you're going to discover some of the best and freshest seafood you can find anywhere on the continent, and with sea-side destinations included with that search.Have you wondered why every seafood restaurant for the most part tastes the same these days? It's because they all buy off the same frozen imported fish truck. That's why today's catch almost everywhere is in reality from quite some time ago. And what I have found driving up and down the coast from Central America to Alaska is that you simply can't buy good fresh seafood anymore. If you don't catch it, the best is getting processed at the ports and sold to packers and the rest is being canned. Additionally the shrimp boats and fishermen are disappearing so you just can't find good fresh seafood anymore.I read this restaurant's website and they work with fishermen who supposedly do sustainable fishing in the Texas gulf, so that's encouraging. Believe it or not, I no longer order fish at the coast if there's not a port nearby because I know I'm going to get the same old stuff like everyone else is serving and eating on the mainland. And for that reason, I now bypass the fish platter on the coast and wait until I get back to Waxahachie for a lunch stop that I've now made a weekly ritual. With all that said, it would be nice if Atkins put out a little tray of catsup, Lee & Perrins, Tabasco, Louisiana hot and a dish-able tub of horseradish so picky eaters like me could make exactly the shrimp sauce we're looking for. Now don't get me wrong Atkins, yours is good but mine is great. I'd even pay a little extra to get these name brand condiments if you can make them available. If the cost it too high for you, you could always add a "sauce service" as a menu item for a buck or half dollar or something.P.S. Person wanting friendly staff - they have always seemed super friendly to me. Were you sure to say "hello, how are you" and "thank you", and I'm not saying you didn't - maybe someone was having a bad day. Personally speaking, I think I am going to vomit if I end up at one more restaurant where the bubbly thing pops out, high I'm Jason/Tiffany and I'll be your server this evening. Oh, please! No more! Still if the reality was known I'd probably let each one of the staff kick me in order to be allowed to have one more meal there LOL.

Excellent barbecue! Kelvin Harris does a great job with ribs, brisket and sausage. He doesn't apply too much seasoning and no sauce. The quality of his work speaks for itself. The ribs were meaty, tasty and cooked just right. The brisket was flavorful and juicy. The sausage was spicy and smokey. This place is definitely worth a visit. Just be aware that he opens at 11am and closes when he runs out of meat, which is almost every day by 3pm.

Was visiting Midlothian over the weekend and came here for dinner on Friday night. We arrived just before 8pm and were informed it would be a 45 minute wait for a table for four, so we went to wait in the bar and have a drink or two.The man at the door asked for a $10 cover, but after telling him we were just waiting for a table he let us in without charging and was very nice about it. My brother stopped at bar near the door, while we found a table nearby. Two girls were working in this bar and after 3 or 4 minutes never even acknowledged him. It's not like they didnt see him standing there because one girl walked past him to enter the bar area and still ignored him. The bar wasnt even busy and only had a handful of people in there. Fortunately another waitress working the back bar came and took drink orders from our table. She was very nice and chatted with us after seeing how those other girls ignored all of us.After a 20 minute wait, a table was available and we moved to the dining room. Our waitress was very helpful with menu selections and very efficient. I ordered the small chicken fried steak, while she ordered the T-bone steak. The small chicken fried steak was more than large enough. Can't imagine how big the large CFS is. The meat was pretty tender and had good flavor, but needed a little salt to amplify the flavor. Her T-bone steak was also pretty tender and was cooked to a perfect medium rare. Overall an average experience. I would have given 4 stars if the bar staff hadn't been so rude. The food is good, but be prepared for hit or miss service as other reviewers mentioned.

The Doves Nest Restaurant

The doves nest restaurant kind of reminds me of Cracker Barrel because it has a store at the front of the restaurant. However the things at the Dove‘s nest are quite expensive and much higher quality than the things at Cracker Barrel. At any rate, I found it quite interesting to look. The restaurant is fairly good size but it is often crowded and quite noisy. They are only open for lunch and have a very eclectic menu. First let’s start with those deviled eggs. Now I love deviled eggs and could eat them at every meal if I had the patience to make them. These are a bit on the spicy side, As is most everything on the menu but they are oh so good! If you prefer your food to be bland Then this is probably not the place for you. However, if you like a little kick and your cuisine you will like this place just fine. Don’t forget to check out the bakery before you leave. You won’t be disappointed.

Wrote before about their fantastic baked potatoes. But since then have tried the spicy sausage that will knock your socks off. And for someone who doesn't like spicy, their regular pork sausage is wonderful. And the pork ribs, OH MY GOSH! BBQ chicken is pretty dang good too. Owners Jason and Money (and yes that is her real name) are fantastic people. Several of their children work there also. Everyone is really courteous, friendly, and care about your eating experience. Better get there early 'cause they sell out fast.
