Not as good as the last time

They’ve made some changes, but, while it’s still an incredible place to stay, it didn’t live up to our first stay here. We stayed in an upstairs bungalow, and while it was the same size as the bungalow we stayed at last time (a ground floor unit), this unit was a bit run down (I believe they are upgrading units, but the hotel staff put us in an un-renovated one). The king-sized bed was very comfortable and the accoutrements were all very attractive, but the sofa in the room had the most unfortunate and offensive stain on it—it looked like somebody did a “Biden” on the couch, or Mr. Hankey had visited the previous tenants (“Howdy-ho!”). The Jacuzzi’s controls did not work (it was a pretty old unit, but large and still usable). Additionally, the chambermaids’ station was located at the bottom of our stairs, so they spent the majority of the morning below our room. I wouldn’t have minded this so much if there were no other rooms vacant, but there were. We asked the receptionist if we could switch rooms, but we were told that we would have to pay an additional fee, but the receptionist said she did not know how much it would cost and that we had to come back later for her to tell us how much it would be. When we came back, she said it would cost an additional R$390 for the night, so I declined. Why didn’t she know how much the room would cost? Not to sound whiny, but if a hotel has a vacancy, I don’t see why they wouldn’t give an open room to a guest who was unhappy with their present room… The employees were almost all very friendly and helpful (our chambermaid was very pleasant, the waiter Renato was great too; the receptionist who helped us at check-out was the height of professionalism and charm (sorry I don’t remember her name)). The bartenders at the pool bar and the waiters in the hotel’s restaurant were also perfect. Upon arrival, the hotel provided us with a welcome coconut water and a complimentary bottle of spumante (the last time they also included a fruit plate, but not this time; however they did give us a nice jar of cocada made at the hotel when we checked out). Breakfast, which is included, was very good! They have a variety of cakes and breads, fruits and condiments; shots of specialty drinks, juices, coconut water and teas available. Hot dishes include omelets, tapiocas with your choice of filling, and even eggs Benedict.

Reviewed By Tulio LService was very attentive. Staff was also well qualified and the food is a must try. Location is also perfect. Right at the heart of Carneiros. Look for Girlene. She'll certainly care for all you need with impeccable attention. We got married there and could not be happier. (Of course, choosing the right person played a very big part hahahah)

Reviewed By MikeR5303This is not an easy hotel to stay at if you are English and don't speak Portuguese, even trying to get by in Spainish or using an app to translate is difficult. On arrival we were told WE MUST wear a blue arm band, which I found ridiculous and more suitable to an all inclusive resort not a small boutique hotel. What makes this even worse is that the front gate is permanently locked as is one of the beach exits. The 2nd opened gate situated next to the beach bar is permanently manned. The room we stayed in, which is one of 3 in a wooden type cottage was comfortable but the air conditioner continued to leak and was not fixed even after bringing it to the managers attention. There solution to the problem was to place a beach towel underneath the unit. The king-size bed {room 3) was extremely comfortable. Breakfast is a combination of breads fruits yogat cheese ham and eggs all presented with very little choice. Day 1 & 2 were difficult but by day 3 and again using a mix of spainish and a translation app we finally and almost got our breakfast right. I say almost because my fried eggs arrived hard again instead of sunny side up. All in all the bed was the most memorable part of our stay.

Cute & cheap, with everything you need
Reviewed By A KWe’ve stayed at this pousada twice, once in the high-season (Easter) and once in the off-season (mid-July). Both times we were in the “Amarelo” room which is cozy and simple with a mini-fridge and a tiny TV with satellite. The TV is so small that you need to sit at the edge of the bed to see it properly, but the only reason we even turned it on was to watch the World Cup Finals (obviously a necessity, lol). Service was excellent both times, but of course it was more personalized when we were the only guests in the place. They have a nice breakfast with eggs and fried plantains cooked to order. Ms. Belle, the caretaker, does a wonderful job of making guests feel at home. She even microwaved our leftovers for us and offered to set up a table and chairs on the patio. Praia das Campas, which is in very close walking distance, was lovely and clean and essentially deserted first thing in the morning. Fabio, the hotelier/restaurateur is also a gem. We had to keep the wooden windows shut to keep mosquitoes out, so there was zero sunlight in our room, but I imagine most folks would spend their days at the beach anyway. Note: I wish I’d known that the restaurant would be closed during the off-season. It was one of our favorite things about our first stay. Instead we took in a few meals at Lampião e Maria Bonita which had cheap and delicious food.
