Great tasting ice cream. They have a good amount of flavors to choose from. For those who prefer they have soft serve but I did not get the soft serve. There is no eating inside but plenty of tables outdoors. Yummy!! Come by and enjoy some great tasting ice cream!

Westmain Tavern

Reviewed By mfctennis - Fort Wayne, Indiana

The decor is charming and cozy and quiet.
The place reminds me of Cafe Odeon in Lagos Portugal but more spacious. The plates are in a blue and white pattern reminding me of Portugal tiles. There is a small bar area with an open kitchen area.
The food was more upscale than other local places but not too fussy and just the right amount. I had chicken thighs with Gorgonzola and it was so well warmed I might have burned my tongue if I had not been careful. They have specials and change the chicken option. The pork chop and the spaghetti with pulled sausage was excellent as well.
Can't wait to comeback here!

The Channel Marker

The Channel Marker is located on the boat channel between Lake Wawasee and Syracuse Lake in Syracuse, IN.

Reviewed By Audrey F - Commerce Twp, MI

While enjoying an outing on Wawasee Lake with our son and 5 kids, we decided to give the Channel Marker a try. We were warmly greeted by our waitress and advised that we could enjoy dinner on the patio. Beverages were ordered while we leisurely perused the menu. I laughed when one grandson said he was ordering 2 sandwiches as he was starved. Through a misunderstanding, an extra dinner was delivered and when we explained how she had misunderstood, absolutely no offer of taking the meal back or not charging us for it was made. We were stuck paying for a $12.00 or $13.00 dinner. I can't write too much more about out dinners as we never received a bill itemizing our order just the final credit card receipt. My husband is almost always a 20% tipper and he did so though I felt we should have subtracted the extra dinner cost. Will we return, not sure????

We enjoyed a wonderful fall dinner at the Sleepy Owl but the desert offerings were lacking. On a whim, we stopped at the local Syracuse DQ for a sweet treat. BIG MISTAKE!! The place was mildly crowded at about 8 PM. Clearly many customers were waiting for food. The place looked fully staffed but it appeared the staff were fighting amongst themselves. One customer from a nearby salon had placed an order for food for her customer and herself who was was being processed for color. She said she had been waiting for a half hour for her order. It took about 5-10 minutes for two shakes for our order. It was amusing (we were in no hurry) to observe the tension.
Our DQ in Indy on S. Meridian near Greenwood is the fastest, most efficient DQ I have ever visited. A order placed, be it a shake, ice cream or sandwich is ready in two minutes.

A wonderful restaurant that not only offers great food but the service is extraordinary!
We walked in late, yet the owner was welcoming and accommodating! The food was delicious, even though we arrived late, the food was fresh, cooked to order and presentation was perfect.
Cod fish, salads and chicken strips were all good choices.
The bar is large and restaurant is nicely decorated.
Truly the best part was the management and his staff!

The ambiance is stellar....boats on dock, pretty lake, gentle breezes, boat loading for sunset cruise. Management would be well served to train servers or to hire someone to train them. Bar service was incredibly slow...
Salad was fresh and crisp and we each enjoyed our entrees.
The large inside dining room was virtually empty as the weather was so lovely outside.

Pat's Chicago Dog

Born & raised a Chicago native, I can attest to the authenticity of these hot dogs right down to the poppy seed buns and sport peppers. Pat's was a nice find for a quick bite. Although the food and service was good, Pat's is in dire need of some TLC....a coat of paint and some new chairs would go a long way to freshen up the place.

The Frog Tavern

Reviewed By ChiefGuru - Decatur, Indiana

Our group of seven was recently in Syracuse for a getaway day. We had been to the Frog Tavern in past years and decided to return. Seems that they are somewhat of a local institution. They have plentiful off street parking not only adjoining the restaurant but another separate lot not far away. Of course, another claim to fame is that diners can arrive by foot, car or boat (i.e. they are on one of Lake Wawasee's channels). They are family friendly. When we arrived, not many other people were there - too early I imagine - but the juke box was playing and sports were on the TVs. We were there on a Saturday afternoon around 5:30 for a few beverages and dinner. Our waitress was fine, quite friendly and efficient. She provided our drinks and dinner orders nicely. We tried a number of things from the menu, including their cheeseburger, Market Place salad, Frog Leg Basket, Cheese Pizza and Seafood Melt open faced sub. I had the latter, which I had had before. Unfortunately, although the portion size was good, the amount of seafood and cheese also good, the sandwich was very very salty. I did consume most of it, with plenty of water. Thus, my take, "do not order the seafood melt, unless you like salty." Of course, a salty sandwich is not a deal breaker for me. My friends and I still really enjoy the ambiance and location of The Frog. They have plenty of other things on their menu for me to try. They also have entertainment some nights. The day we visited, a band was to play later that night. We had another commitment. Otherwise would have been interesting to see whether they filled up when live music was available, We wil return at some point in the future.

Wawasee Cafe

Reviewed By tenabeana - Northwest Indiana

Stopped here on our way back home as we stayed at Oakwood for the weekend. Fairly priced, fast service. Portions were abundant but we were full when we left. My husband got sausage links and they tasted like hot dogs and were light pink in color but he didn't mind. Overall it was just a typical breakfast.
