We went here just last weekend for lunch after a long hike. Certainly not dressed for fine dining, but were greeted by the chef and owner Luigi Maiolo. We had the best gnocchi we've had in a very long time, with zafran sauce, and a wonderful platter of cold meat. I could imagine that the terrace is very romantic at night. Service was excellent, I liked the fact that the Chef came out to serve along with the waiter and explained the dishes, as well as greeted us upon arrival and departure. Next time Bellinzona, will be a visit with bells and jingles for dinner!

Located in Blenio Valley in a small village (Ludiano) necessary to drive uphill, is indicated but still pretty hidden. A typical Ticino grotto (tavern) shaded under trees with attached stone houses; in the past, these houses were used to store salami, cheeses or wine. Not only the stone houses (rustico) but rock caves were used for the same purpose. Nearby there are paths to the woods, nice to hike before or after meals. We had the table on the tree, something unique. It is rustic so don't expect things like a tablecloth, is an outdoor table and leaves often fall. But still is nice as an experience especially if going with kids. We had the classics (ham cuts, polenta with stews and minestrone). Food were edible, particularly we appreciated the minestrone and the cheeses. Service was OK. A nice place where to hide under the heating sun.

Locanda Lessy

Some of these villages sometimes are host to surprisingly good venues. The Osteria Lessy is one of them. You wouldn’t expect a rather refined place like this in this otherwise unremarkable house and village. Although it’s definitely not luxury, the dining room is pleasant and more importantly the menu is nicely done. Our dishes were very good. It was the beginning of venison season and we had chamois (excellent on a nice polenta with porcini). The dish was very tasty, and excellent despite the meat being cut with bones making it a bit complicated to eat. A starter of local cold cuts was a bit less exceptional dur to the meat being too fresh. Among other plates we had home made pasta with safran and goose-confit that were both really excellent. Wine was local and very reasonably priced. Service was very attentive and friendly. It seems like a sure bet in the area
